If you are watching Cornerstone [Christian] Television right now, they are having a faith telethon drive thing. If you send them a $1000 pledge they will send you a 3 inch length of rope that has been anointed that will bless your life. The guy said that if your marriage is in trouble, if your child is going to hell, if your ministry is failing, this is for you! Just a $1000 and your life could be blessed by God! Do it!

I forgot to mention, there are only 200 of these, so make the call quickly.

Does the rope come with a carrying case?  I don't want to just stuff it in my pocket for goodness' sake.

Why a rope?  What's the significance?  It's not even long enough to tie up a stack of magazines.

Do you really think 200 people will be that desperate?

Oh, yes.  Unfortunately it'll probably be folks who can least afford it.

Not sure why a rope, I'd imagine they contrived a theological/biblical reason for it, but I didn't see them talking about that. As for people actually doing it, these are usually pros at separating people from their money, so I imagine they know what gimmicks will work. They do these things all the time, and the station is still on the air, and it's not from advertising revenue, so they must get a decent amount of money from viewers.

I've come across scams in various shapes and forms, aimed as always at the gullible and the vulnerable. This sounds like just one more for the waste basket.

odd how these people call our Holy Mysteries and the Vatican's sacraments "pagan" and "superstition."
