I believe this thread deserves more serious attention, therefore...

Bathing,Showering,Scrubbing with Soap,Shaving,Brushing teeth,Changing clothes. Personal Hygiene Please Practice

Bathing - I like to take baths a couple times a week because it helps with my back a bit. I doubt it actually helps directly, but it feels good overall anyway and is relaxing. Ok, who am I kidding, I just like to read in the tub.

Showering - Feels great when you turn the water up so that it's too hot and burns you some. Oh yeah. I hate getting old man hands from the moisture though. Ugh.

Scrubbing with Soap - I use Old Spice body wash, does that count?

Shaving - My beard is my life, but I do trim it, because if I don't I notice that women give me dirty looks and little children run away from me screaming. This is not the reaction I am going for.

Brushing teeth - This one sucks. You can not shower for 3 years straight, and then in a very short time fix the problem. Not as easy if you don't brush your teeth for 3 years straight. Why's nature gotta be like that?

Changing clothes - I wear clothes as little as possible, but I do try to change into something before I go out. Some places you just have to draw the line though.

Bathing,Showering,Scrubbing with Soap,Shaving,Brushing teeth,Changing clothes. Personal Hygiene Please Practice
The modern preoccupation with personal hygiene could be to the detriment of our skin, according to Dr Nick Lowe, consultant dermatologist at the Cranley Clinic  in London.

‘Most people wash far too much,’ he says. ‘Using piping-hot water combined with harsh soaps can strip the skin of its oils, resulting in dryness, cracking and even infection.

‘For the majority of us, there is no need to have a thorough wash every day.’

I follow a personal hygiene program

I just meant anyone in general who was shaving unless you have a beard

That is also taking care of your finances and bill payments -(information)-

Keeping a house clean and doing household chores

Taking care of my responsibilities?...

I don't like bathing, I prefer showers. Last time I take a bath a couple of years ago.

I don't like shower gels because I have a feeling they don't rinse fully. I prefer cube soap.

I shave myself precisely on Nativity and Easter. On regular basis I just use hair trimmer to cut the beard to 2-3 millimeters when I have enough looking like a homeless person.

What is this thread about?

I haven't had a bath in years. I don't get the whole 'soak up for hours and relax' schtick - I just get fidgety. Showers are much better, and one day I'm so getting a standing jacuzzi like this.

I always shower in the evening; I'm too cold and in too much of a hurry in the morning.

Also, dry body brushing absolutely rules.

In school, I had a roommate who was from Paris. I could never get in the bathroom because she took several showers a day.

Using a body brush like this one on dry skin before showering, rather than during. The improvement in skin quality is spectacular, not to mention the energy boost. I've known people who use this technique every morning, together with an energising shower, like bergamot, and find they don't need coffee to wake up.

I do everything on that list, especially shaving every morning. However, brushing my teeth is the worse. I hate taking care of my teeth. Flossing and brushing is so hard and time consuming. I wish I could just get them all pulled out and get dentures like my grandpa.

My wife's grandfather always had a horrible time taking care of his teeth so when my mother-in-law was eight or nine years old, her father met a dental student (yes, a STUDENT) at the bar around the corner from their house, got liquored up, went into the bathroom where the guy pulled all this teeth and then went back in a week or so to get his dentures.

He was hero enough when he survived Normandy and became the hardest man I ever met once I heard this story.  Oh, he also drove himself to the hospital after having his eye deflated by a broom handle.

After his death, my wife got a bracelet made that has one of his glass eyes as the focal point.  She's as weird as he was tough. Wink

The whips and what not are rather disturbing, but the hairshirts seem disappointing.  It looks like I could make that by stitching together some empty basmati rice bags, and it's so expensive?  So much for being an ascetic.

What's the link for that lifestyle site you were talking about?  I'm not into such things personally, but I'm curious that there's enough EO interested in it to merit a separate section...I thought the gluttony for punishment extended only to ecumenical synods and other such things.  Wink

Yes.  Every time you feel the urge (or necessity) to pay a bill (sounds like a serious addiction, for which no 12-step group has yet been established, afaik), have a cold shower for at least 5 minutes.  Scrub your scalp vigorously with a wire brush while doing so.  Your bill payments will decrease dramatically.  An added benefit will be that by using cold water each time you will acclimate yourself to it for the time when your electricity/gas company cuts you off and only cold water will flow through the pipes.  Unfortunately, once the water company catches on, well....Then you'll just have to spend some time gathering dirt in buckets, stand in the shower, scrub yourself with the dirt while scrubbing your scalp vigorously with a wire brush.  Problem solved.  Grin

That's the modern version of the cilice. It's worn around the thigh, tightly enough to stab into the skin. A favourite of the Opus Dei, if you believe Dan Brown. Cheesy
