Protestant Church ususally gain the money from Tenti. In order to against the inflation, a number of (Protestant)Churches in Hong Kong spend their money on the investment, like buy shares, bonds, funds, etc.

Is it appropriate for the Church to do the investments?

I think it depends a lot on how it is done.  I don't think the Church should just be stockpiling hordes of money.  Those funds should be used for the furthering of the Gospel whether it be through establishing parishes, helping the poor, etc.  But I also don't think that the Church should operate without any sort of a safety net in the event that it needs to help for something like a natural disaster or refugees and the like.

Is it appropriate for the Church to do the investments?

It is as appropriate as engaging in homosexuality, adultery, etc.

But notice, you don't get a lot of threads around here ranting against 401ks.

Not to be picky, but as an organization, churches are unable to have 401k accounts.  They are for individuals only.

How is that picky?

I didn't say they could.

My point is that interest as we understand it today is certainly usury, given its compound nature. The Church should be financing by buying things out right or through Shariah banks.
