Lord have mercy on us

« on: May 12, 2013, 12:42:40 AM »

Hello Everyone,

Since I have no been on in a long time due to very heavy work load, firstly Christ has risen. (happy Easter to everyone, and to your family).

I have a few query on Incense. Forgive me for these simple questions I will ask.

Firstly I do know how to burn Incense by putting it on a charcoal etc, but I want to know when to burn? for example do I say a prayer first then burn it and say another one?
Also is there a prayer anyone can recommend while blessing my house with Incense?

Another question is I bough Incense on-line few times but I love to experiment with the smells of them, I do love all of them as it makes me feel like these is no worries in the world, but is there a good on-line store? I will prefer the ones that a yellow ish ( like this picture http://www.easterngiftshop.com/media/ecom/cat/frankincense%20picture.jpg ) instead of those white ones where the white substance comes off. (sorry for bad example given there haha)

God bless.

Regards
Richard

This is what I do for my evening prayers when I have enough time to burn incense.

Venerate icons, light vigil lamp.  Prepare censer and place incense on lit coal.  Begin evening prayers.  I don't know of a specific prayer that one does for burning incense, but when I cense my house, I just say the Jesus Prayer.

The picture you provided looks like frankincense.  So, I take it that you prefer resin-based incense rather than the Athonite style (the white substance being clay for curing and keeping the incense from being sticky).  Here are a few websites that offer frankincense and other resin blends.  I have purchased from these vendors, not necessarily just incense, and have always been pleased.  E-mail them, they are always friendly and ready to answer any questions you have.

Holy Cross Hermitage (Wayne, WV) - http://store.holycross-hermitage.com/categories/incense/pure-frankincense.html
Desert Father Incense - http://desertfathersincense.com/incense.html
Orthodox Incense - http://orthodoxincense.com/saleitems.html     [NOTE:  I purchased the Fine grain Rose incense and love it. It's Athonite style, but does not have the white powdery clay.  And it is inexpensive]

What hecma said.  I like the Somalian Frankincense from orthodoxincense.com, I believe it smells better than the Ethiopian stuff.

Regarding time to burn charcoal, I usually quarter the waffers, that way the quarter of one piece will only take about 15 minutes to burn and only about 2 minutes to fire up completely.  It lasts enough time for everyone (I have a relatively big family) to say their part of the evening prayers, personal devotions, and prayers to Christ, the Theotokos, and our guardian angels.  10 minutes, tops.  Except if the kids want to chant their prayers.

I just got a contact high from my own memories of a bygone era.  LOL!  Thanks for the that! Smiley
