Fetal loss, eventual miscarriage and healing
« on: April 18, 2013, 12:38:31 PM »
For the past 15 weeks my wife and I have been quietly celebrating the upcoming birth of our fourth child. But Monday during a routine doctor’s checkup, we discovered that the baby had no heartbeat and had not grown for some time.

Prior to that, all signs had been for a normal, healthy pregnancy. It was quite unexpected.

Now, we are awaiting the miscarriage. It’s the worst kind of waiting.

My wife’s Christian name is Photina; mine is Moses.

Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

Awwwww...so, sorry to hear this.

May the good Lord grant healing to Moses, Photina and all the family as they suffer this devastating loss.  Grant physical and spiritual healing to all involved.

Lord, have mercy!
Conquer evil men by your gentle kindness, and make zealous men wonder at your goodness. Put the lover of legality to shame by your compassion. With the afflicted be afflicted in mind. Love all men, but keep distant from all men.

Lord have mercy!  My wife is pregnant now and my sister-in-law recently lost her baby, so I am very sensitive to your loss.

Lord have mercy.

I went through two very early miscarriages.

Make sure you give your little one a name.

I named my little angels: Xenia Maria and Lynn.

Lord have mercy.

The Matushka who runs that blog is our priest's wife.

It is a good repository of knowledge for those going through this situation.

The baby was delivered at what would have been 16 weeks gestation, on the feast of the greatmartyr St. George.

We buried him that Friday, the day before Lazarus Saturday, and though he could not be baptized we named him Gabriel.

We missed most of the Holy Week services and for much of that time I found myself unable to pray, but we were able to spend Holy Friday, Saturday and Pascha with our godfamilies and loved ones and were able to sing the paschal troparion with them.
