Last night I had to take Daisy to Angell Memorial's ER because she had stopped eating and couldn't walk.  They checked her last night and she has pain in her neck and lower back and difficulty with her left hind leg, plus some blood in her feces.  She had to remain overnight and sometime today I hope to be able to bring her home and that her problems are not life threatening.  In addition to her problems, I'm in the panic mode as she is the same age as Bella, who passed away 2 yrs ago this April 28th.

Awww!  Sad  I remember well, when Bella passed.

I pray that Daisy is not seriously ill and that her condition quickly clears up and you can take her home healthy with you today.

Lord, have mercy and grant your all your creatures good health!!!

Angell Memorial called and...Well, she doesn't seem to have a back problem, so it maybe arthrist, but when they did the blood work her kidney values were 190, when they should be 30. This may be due to an infection. They think she might have a potential for Cushings. They want to keep her at least another day to check her urine and possibily do an ultra sound. They are going to call back with an extimate and if its too high, I'm going to have to say no.  I don't want to, but I can do?

Sad  There's still a chance it may not be too serious.

....and if it is....don't think of it as you loosing Daisy....but, Bella finally being able to play with Daisy, again.

Either way...may the Lord be merciful and grant healing - physical and spiritual!

We will have Daisy in our prayers.  My Beagle had identical symptoms; they prescribed a steroid, pain management, and rest.  I was so afraid that I was going to have to euthanize him, but he pulled through within 3 weeks of starting the meds and is back to normal.

Got a reprieve last night when a friend, who's own dog was recently hospitalized, offered the money needed to get Daisy's blood work and ultrasound done today.  The hospital called and Daisy is resting and the blood work was done...waiting for results.  As soon as the neurologist is available they will do an ultrasound to see what is causing Daisy's kidney values to be at 190, when normal values are 30.

This photo was when I visited her last night.

Before I left Vespers I called Angell...Daisy is doing much better. The tests have been done as well as the ultrasound.  Now they will try her on solid food.  Her kidney values are down from 198 to 135.  They noticed some changes in her belly, which might be consistent with Cushings.  Also some changes in her gall bladder and kidneys, BUT they are ruling out cancer.  There's still concerns, but it looks like she's out of the woods and the worse is behind her.

When I got home, there was another message from Angell...Daisy finally had solid food and was resting comfortably.

Sunday Updates:

Daisy's kidney values are now in the 80s from originally at 198. Still don't know what causing the infection.  Problem is she won't eat. I'm on my way with some of her foods. It may be that she misses me.

Dr. Jay made an except for me to try and feed Daisy. It didn't work she turns away from the food. I even got her her favorite food, a can of "Hunk of Beef", which she would suck down in seconds, but no luck.  It could be due to her kidney pain. I know that from personal experience. Daisy may have to been at Angell was another couple of days, or until the money runs out.  The doctor will call me later tonite to see if the increase in her meds will get her to eat.

Dr. Jay just called...they increased her meds and Daisy ate a little ham they gave her.  If she increases eating regularly and her kidney values drop she may go home by Tuesday or Wednesday.  Its a glimmer of hope and I surely don't mind being woken at 1am with news like this.

Got a call at 1am from Daisy's vet with news she ate some ham.

Just got off the phone at 2pm and Daisy's kidney values are now 42.1, but she is beginning to slow down in improvement in that area.  She is eating a little and nibbling on her own of the canned dog food they offered her.  They are continuing her on fluids for flushing out her kidneys and if she begins to eat regularly, and on her own, she may be coming home tomorrow.  If she's slow on eating I have have to feed her myself via a syringe.  But just having her home will be a blessing.

Just got off the phone with Dr Jay...Daisy is eating, not the right foods but eating.  She will be on a low protein diet.  I will be taught how to give under the skin fluid injections at 6pm. I am so happy she is coming home tonight.

Dear Monk Vasyl ,

It's actually easy to give injections under a dog's skin. I did it for my parent's dog for a long time.  She was so happy to have me holding her and praising her that she never noticed the injections.  Also I used a very fine, short needle.

That's awesome!! Glory to God!!

I agree with Elephant, most sporting and work dogs have been bred to have a much higher pain tolerance - and simply don't feel the stuff that goes skin deep. Smiley

But it's a great excuse for a good healthy treat (a ball!! Cheesy and time with dad!!)!

When I got home from church, tonight, Daisy began to go down hill.  She couldn't walk and she had a blank stare and was moaning all the way to Angell.  I had no choice but to let her go.  She was the same age as Bella was when I lost her and her 2 yr anniversary will be on April 28th.

Lord, have mercy on all who care for animals, and grant peace to those who mourn the loss of their pets.

Dear Monk Vasyl, I am sorry for the loss of your Daisy.

So very, very sad!  Cry Cry Cry I've had to say goodbye to two cats in the last three years, so I know what it's like.

May you be comforted by the many memories you have of your dear, sweet Daisy. You and the vet did all you could for her. I'm sure she's in critter heaven, with your beloved Bella.

Thank you all for your prayers and concern.  With the lock down of Boston, I was lucky not to have to deal with work, today.
