Over in upstate New York, the greater Binghamton area Orthodox clergy and churches celebrated this year's Vespers at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The responses were sung by the local Pan Orthodox Choir. UOCUSA, OCA, ACROD and ROCOR clergy and deacons participated. We were thankful that for the first ever the local ROCOR priest participated. (The parish was without a full time pastor since the former priest led a group of parishioners into schism at the time of the reunion in 2007 and established a "traditional" Orthodox church in a neighboring town. The GOARCH  priest and parish were preparing for their Patronal feast of the Annunciation and held their traditional parish vespers. Several of the clergy went there following our service.) Seminarians Will Bennett of ACROD gave a moving presentation about his upcoming OCMC mission work among the Orthodox youth in Albania this coming summer.

In Detroit, our Pan-Orthodox Vespers (first of five) was at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.  This was the first time the Greeks were participating.

By the new calendar this was also the Eve of the Annunciation, and therefore, the Eve of their Patronal Feast Day.

Great Vespers lasted well over 2 hours!

There were close to 30 clergy present - Greek, Serbian, Romanian, Antiochian, Russian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Albanian, etc.

It was a wonderful experience.

Thank you Liza for relating a wonderful and heart-warming joint celebration. Not that I could have attended, but we did not have our traditional joint Vespers of Orthodoxy in my town. I am trying to figure out why and will report back when I do.

Yes.  Macedonian-Bulgarian.

Yes.  Macedonian-Bulgarian.

To clarify a bit further, there are two Bulgarian jurisdictions in the area: a diocese of the OCA under His Grace Alexander, Bishop of Toledo and the Bulgarian Diocese, and another one of the Bulgarian Church under His Eminence Joseph, Metropolitan of the Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Diocese of the USA, Canada, and Australia. Now, to make things even "clearer," the composition of any given parish is mixed, composed of Bulgarians, Macedono-Bulgarians, Macedonians and converts. Please note that at times Bulgarians, Bulgaro-Macedonians and Macedonians do not get along at all. It would be best to refer to them by whatever they desire.
