Armed Buddhists, including monks, clash with Muslims in Myanmar

Buddhist monks and others armed with swords and machetes Friday stalked the streets of a city in central Myanmar, where sectarian violence that has left about 20 people dead has begun to spread to other areas, according to local officials.

Members of the Buddhist and Muslim communities in Meiktila township have clashed this week after a dispute between a Muslim gold shop owner and two Buddhist sellers Wednesday ignited simmering communal tensions...

Hey, so I'm in a pop-alt-punk-folk-prog band called "Affable Dregs" and we have a new album coming out, titled "Vicious Turnips Always Taste Most Delicious." We'd really appreciate your support!

Not that I'm happy about any armed conflict but it's nice to see Buddhists having conficts with other religious groups for a change. Many Western people have this idea that Far Eastern religions are somehow more peaceful than Western religions.

No it isn't. It's not good to see anyone being subjected to violence, terrorism, and killing.  Lord have mercy on Burma and all its peoples.

First of all, your comment was disturbing to see. Second, this is what I was telling you about in the other post wrote under the topic of Muslims or Buddhists. Not all Buddhists are the "peace-full", "meditation-loving" people that Hippies in North America portray them to be. In Myanmar, Burma, parts of India, and parts of China, they are attacked by Buddhists.

By and large, this idea is true. Buddhists who aren't peaceful, and who aren't regular practitioners of meditation, are "failing" at Buddhism, just as Christians who are judgmental and don't regular practice prayer and forgiveness are "failing" at Christianity. Why celebrate Buddhists failing to be peaceful?

I am celebrating clearing of Western misconceptions about religion, not an armed conflict.
