I can verify this statement.
The Church really should bar the newly converted from free-reading about Orthodoxy on the interwebs. I was reading the Lives of the Holy Apostles, did some internet research out of curiosity, clicked on a few off-topic things, and now I'm like, "hmmm... what are aerial toll houses?" Now I want to leave my wife, excommunicate my priest, and stop bathing.
Just kidding.
If you want an introduction to the Church Fathers, then perhaps get a book that deals with that. From the top of my head I know of Prologue by St. Nikolaj Velimirovic (I believe that it is obvious by now that I like his writings a lot). Free online link is available at

ie. 1) lives of saints, 2) hymn of praise, 3) reflection, 4) homily.
I am sure there numerous other books and articles available online and in print that perhaps you might find even more useful...As I am sure you are aware, it all depends of what type of information you are trying to gain and perhaps we can all be of better help to you.
