I don't know if anyone here remembers Smokey...well, his health is getting worse, and I am so worried about him. I'm taking him to the vet as soon as possible, he's just so old and...yeah. On top of everything else stressing me out, I just want to cry. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's just a cat. But he's still family to me, and I just feel so helpless, because I rescued him from an abusive home years ago, and he's been such a blessing. I don't know. But thank you kindly.

Critters can, and do, become family. Especially cats. Don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise. It's OK to cry over them. Poor puss, hope he pulls through.

Well, God granted Him healing...but not in the way I wanted He was put to sleep today. Thank you everyone for praying, though. <3 you all As one who has had to do the same to two felines of venerable age in the space of four years (one was fourteen, the other just shy of seventeen), I know how you feel. You'll miss Smokey, but be glad of the many years of fun, affection, and love he gave you. Both of my gorgeous grand old ladies "had spirit", capable of putting any mortal, of any rank, in his place. Both were carefully buried in the back yard under rose bushes they liked to doze under. I'd like to think that they're both in kitty heaven, being their utterly charming selves, and calling the shots, as they did on earth.

Mmm. He had been through so much. He was old when we found him. His owners were meth addicts and trashed their home before they left after being kicked out, abandoning him in the process. He had three legs, but he was resilient and beautiful, and one of the kindest and most gentle cats I have ever owned. In fact, I will post a picture of him in this post. I tried so hard to give him an easy life and make him feel comfortable, because he was sick from the day we found him. He was never concerned about himself; I know that sounds crazy, but he would get so annoyed with me when I worried about him! The night before he was put to sleep, I was sitting with him and petting him, crying, and he just looked at me and put his paw on my nose...like, "enough of that!" lol.
We had him cremated; his home is now on the endtable in the living room. Our other cat, Noel, has been handling it okay, though she is a tad lonely.
Sometimes I hope that God will allow us to see our pets again. They can make such an impact on our life.

I'm sorry I made you cry! Things have gotten better, don't worry. It's good to know he's no longer in pain.

My youngest son and I cared for them for a day until they were reunited with their mother. They came back to us some weeks later and are now our pets. My rat is not too happy to have them around and beats up on them when he gets a chance. But I have grown quite attached to them. I can somewhat understand how you feel now.

There is no such thing as "just a cat". I am thoroughly convinced that having and caring for pets can dispose our hearts to salvation. Sorry for your loss.

Cats have been part of my life for the better part of 40 years, and everything in the above post is completely and utterly true. Eastern Mind, thanks for posting the pic. What a big, beautiful, beautiful boy, now in kitty heaven.
