Update on the health of H.H Catholicose of the East, the head of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and Tsunami Relief Efforts - from H.H. Mar Meletius
Dear Every one, This brings to you updates on two matters.
1. The health of H.H. Catholicos Bava Thirumeni is much better now and H.H. could be discharged from the hospital any day from now. I met H.H. yesterday and I talked to the director of the hospital. The doctors have however advised H.H. to be in the hospital for a week more for him to regain strength. There is absolutely no need for worry. But H.H. is old and needs your prayers on H.H.' behalf. As I said in my earlier mail Thirumeni's fever got out of hand as it was unattended and that was why he had to be admitted to Kolenchery Medical College.
2. The Kerala Council of Churches (I am the vice president of the same and Rev. Fr. Dr. George Pulikkottil of Orthodox Theological Seminary is the Asst. Secretary) and CASA (Churches' Auxiliary for Social Actions) officials had a joint meeting on Monday at Thiruvella. We have finalized a three-stage rehabilitation programme of Tsunami affected people in three districts. As the first stage we will distribute relief kits for 7500 families in three affected areas (Kochi, Kollam and Alappuzha). The kit includes blankets, bed sheets, dhoti, sari and 12 kitchen utensils. This will be distributed this week. The second stage is marked by a 1.5 crore rupee aid in the form of nets, fiber glass boats and temporary shelters for individual families (over against communities the way Government is providing them with). This will be distributed in 4 weeks' time. The final stage will be building houses for deserving. The details of this part will be decided at a later stage when the first two are over and when we see what the government as other organizations are going to do. Particular emphasis will be given to the Dalits among the affected lot. Rev. Fr. Abey Philip (of the OCYM, Kayamkulam Kadisa Orthodox Church) will look after the matter in Alappuzha district along with a Rev. Mathew Ninan of CSI parish Puthuppally, Kayamkulam. The Youth Movement of our Church will cooperate with the work in all possible ways starting from taking data regarding the real beneficiaries. Please continue to pray for the affected people.
Yours, Yuhanon Mor Meletius (Metropolitan of Thrissur, the President of Orthodox Christian Youth Movement)
