In Rome, Georgia, there are signs of budding interest in the possible establishment of an Orthodox parish. Fr. Watson of the St. Elizabeth Orthodox Mission in Woodstock says he has gotten strong turnouts for lectures about the Church, when he speaks at Berry College. From the article: These lectures were requested and organized by Michael Papazian, associate professor of philosophy and history at Berry, who is an Orthodox Christian.
Papazian was thrilled with the turnout for the lectures and the resulting interest in the Orthodox Church.
“We were pleased with Father Frederick’s familiar style and his depth of understanding that has motivated many students in their study of Religion,” said Papazian.

Awesome! Rome is not too far from where I used to live in GA (about a 45 minute drive). I'm glad to see that Orthodoxy is spreading throughout that region.

Sounds just peachy to me! The funniest thing here is I wanted to make this "in communion with Rome" joke months ago. So I searched for all towns and cities named "Rome" in North America and I couldn't find one Orthodox Church that is located within the jurisdictional boundaries of those towns/cities. I just said to myself, "well, maybe the Orthodox really doesn't want to be associated with Rome." Yes, I am aware there is a ROC church in Rome, Italy.

So there's an Orthodox parish in Rome, but none in Athens. Strange. (Though there is a Goarch parish just outside Athens, in Watkinsville.)

Very happy to hear about this!
I'm from Rome (or really Cave Spring) originally. It's somewhere I wish I could go back to live in the future...

+Glory to Jesus Christ !
Just want to remind you that it is Rome, Georgia and not Rome Italy.
Now the Orthodox in Rome Georgia can call themselves Roman Orthodox.
Sounds great to me.
