praise God!
we copts often touch the icon with our fingers and then kiss them.
the reason for touching the icon first is that it is us who are getting the blessing from the (person depicted in the) icon.
sometimes icons are too high up, sometimes there are other reasons, but touching and then kissing the fingers is orthodox.

I agree. Praise God and take every small or larger step with a smile and pray. God is good and he knows our hearts.

Another thing to have in mind is that for some people Orthodoxy comes naturally for others it takes some time in order to get comfortable with all the features Orthodoxy presents...It can be mind blowing - cultural-religious shock.  But it is well worth it.  ;)

Another update.

Great Lent is over, Christ is risen.

My wife has continued in going up for blessings. We are scheduled to go talk to our Priest again this Saturday. The girls have identified possible Patron Saints for themselves. That gives us all possible Patron Saints and sponsors. My wife is reading the book about Crazy John of Athens - fool for Christ.  I'm excited, but praying for patience, it's all up to God not me.  ;D

Dear Maximum Bob,

That is good news.  Once God comes after one person in a family, He often catches them all!

Thank you Gabriel, Sol, Mabsoota, Elephant.

We met with our priest today and discussed progress in moving forward over Lent. We have as previously mentioned identified possible Patron Saints and sponsor. My wife indicated she wasn't ready to become catechumen yet but would be soon. Our priest suggested maybe Dec. she said sooner. He suggested maybe Sept. she said sooner. Our Priest suggested The feast of All Saints of North America, Sunday July 7th or All Saints Sunday, June 30th or two weeks from tomorrow June 2nd. My wife did not commit to any of those but Father did say we would have to talk to our potential sponsors soon especially if it we were going to do Sunday June 2nd and my wife has indicated we need to talk to them tomorrow. Wow, I am excited a little nervous that this is too good to be true but it seems we're finally in sight of that next step of becoming catechumen.  ;D

Maximum Bob, what does your wife think of Crazy John of Athens?  Somewhere on this board, there's a story of Crazy John reversing a homosexual unless I have my Crazy John's in Athens confused.   :o

That's the one I read it before she did. I'm not sure she's read that far yet, but she likes what she's read thus far. She has a somewhat similar tendency to just out of the blue gift people with things.

BTW: plural for catechumen is catechumens. And there is no such thing as catechuman, but catechumen for both a woman or a man. :)
