The Fig Tree

Any thoughts on this passage

 The Fig Tree Withered
12 Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. 13 And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.”
And His disciples heard it.

Does it have a deep and meaningful explanation, or perhaps it's telling us to not eat figs. Any thoughts? I can't find anything on it.

My thoughts... when Christ is ready to ask us for our fruit we better be ready to deliver. Like the foolish virgins, if we are found unprepared, then we will be left out. Likewise, if we have no fruit, then we will end up barren forever.

It was my understanding that the Tree of Life was traditionally a fig tree, and the fruit a fig. The leaves used to cover the doodads were fig leaves.

I'm going to need this.
