Nothing Cardinal Mahony or his minions did/do surprise me anymore.

"Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez announced Thursday that Cardinal Roger Mahony would have a reduced role in the church and that Santa Barbara Bishop Thomas J. Curry has stepped down from that job amid recent revelations over their handling of the priest abuse scandal in the 1980s."

Yes, I heard that last night and was pleased that, in a church with an all-male hierarchy, we finally have a bishop with some removed, spanish or not we know what that means in english -username! section moderator/color]

You mean aside from the point the news item made about him being involved in covering up sex abuse cases?

Beyond that I don't know.  Maybe he was the bishop behind that video of a deacon dancing around with the Gospels during a procession.  Maybe someone who knows can confirm that.

I find that on the internet there's two reasons why Catholics despise a certain bishop.

1. There is a public sin.  Either they were directly the offender or that they are involved in someone else's sin such as the aforementioned covering up of sex abuse cases (which is a sin by itself).
2. They've been branded as "modernist Liturgical innovators," those who like bare churches and Protestant themed music, those who like EMHCs and girl altar servers, and those who deny requests to have a Latin Mass.

We know Cardinal Mahoney is #1, not sure if he's also #2.

That was what I was talking about earlier.  So he IS behind that.

Protestant themed music

I like "When the Protestants go marching in", but other than that I don't think there's any good Protestant themed music.

But anyhow, I've never made much of a study of Cardinal Mahoney; but from the various statements I have heard over the years, he's quite liberal.

I also recall someone (Maria, perhaps?) telling us about Mahoney lecturing Melkites that they should embrace Papal Supremacy and whatnot.

He appears to be responsible on both counts looking at the evidence. The mass looks more appropriate to an Ancient Greek temple, sensuous dancing and all. All very odd. The covering up by anyone of the abuse of children or to failing to protect children is incompatible with Our Saviour's teaching.

With regard to covering up abuse, was Cardinal Mahoney the only RC bishop to actually have been charged (convicted?) of that? The latest? The one that continued a cover up after the scandals broke? I'm confused.
