I will be visiting Okinawa in the near future and was wondering if anyone knew of any Orthodox churches or groups there.

I think one of the chaplains on Camp Butler is Orthodox. He might be able to help you out. You should be able to call the chaplains office and talk to him.

Yes, here we go. This page has contact information:
http://www.orthodoxmilitary.org/Chaplain_s_Page.html

Look for Fr. Christopher Allen. I would shoot him an e-mail or try the cell phone number, unless you're military and have access to DSN lines.

He is ROCOR.  Having joined under Greek jurisdiction, is there anything I should know?   I don't want to be a complicated visitor for him.

Not really (there might be small differences between Russian and Greek customs during the services). However, if you do end up going there and you want to take Communion, make sure you talk to him first. Always good to give the priest a heads-up when he doesn't know you.

I tried looking at Camp Butler's access numbers, but they all seem to be DSN line (military phone network) numbers. There is a section on calling on the commercial line, but I'm a little confused about it. I'm about to go to work (I'm military stationed in Korea). I'll try giving them a call on the DSN and finding out how to call them from commercial phones on the island. If he's there, I'll try talking to him and getting some information and contact info from him.

Well, my plan didn't work out. Within 10 minutes of getting into work, I had to go do something and didn't get back to my office until 6. By then, I knew there would be no one there. But, I did do a little more research and found him on the ROCOR clergy page. I'll PM you the e-mail address that is on there (a personal e-mail address). I'll try again tonight when I go into work just in case you haven't heard from him yet.

As of now, there is no Orthodox priest in Okinawa, but there is one arriving in the near future.  Perhaps by the time I arrive.

Any chance you can get to one of the other islands?

I don't think I will be able to, but who can say?  Things change all the time.

I have arrived in Okinawa Japan.  Very excited!  I haven't been in Japan in almost twenty years.

It now appears I will have the rare opportunity to travel abroad again, except this time I will be in Korea.  The link above seems not to be working now and I was wondering if anyone has information on Orthodox priests in Korea.

Sometimes my job has its perks.  Getting to go places on occasion is one of them.

Unfortunately, I don't speak Korean.  I was hoping more along the lines of Chaplains on a base.
