Absolute zero is often thought to be the coldest temperature possible. But now researchers show they can achieve even lower temperatures for a strange realm of "negative temperatures."

Oddly, another way to look at these negative temperatures is to consider them hotter than infinity, researchers added.

This unusual advance could lead to new engines that could technically be more than 100 percent efficient, and shed light on mysteries such as dark energy, the mysterious substance that is apparently pulling our universe apart.

If something is infinitely hot it should be infinitely volatile and impossible to keep from evaporating away before you could even think about it. I really want to see a picture of this laser beam/magnetic field device they used to hold it.

Insight into my childhood:

In middle school or whenever you learn about absolute zero, I came home and explained to my mother what I had learned. She told me I was wrong cause God was bound by no absolutes and could always make anything colder. I argued (as well as I could) about the mechanics and how it couldn't get any colder.

My mother smacked me.

Lesson: No matter how crazy your parents are, if you wait long enough, they will end up being right.

The real lesson after reading the article: Your parents are almost always wrong.

We cannot legislate morality by passing laws controlling firearms. The only evil we can combat lies within our hearts.

We need stronger laws to protect the moral foundation of society against the evil of gay marriage.

The real question in all this is, are they going to adjust the Kelvin scale?

And for something far less high brow, this post brings me to quote that great philosopher, Outkast:

"What's cooler than being cool?  Ice cold."

Hey ya, profound!

You're welcome.  There are far worse songs to have stuck in your head all day.
