Jesus Christ said He came to give life(John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.) and Save us, He came to give us Eternal Life which starts now(1 John 5:13: 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.)
Alot of my Brothers and Sisters confuse Eternal Life with afterlife, God(The Father, The Son(Jesus Christ) and The Holy Spirit) give us life now for eternity,and will Save us when He(Jesus Christ) Returns, that is when the Eternal life which we are already living will be free of all suffering, difference between that and now is that now we are in the world, later on we will be with Jesus Christ.
Now Jesus Christ does expect us to suffer(Matthew 5:[11] Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. [12] Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.}
but many confuse that for "Christ wants us to suffer" that is a false teaching, Jesus Christ came to give peace so that we do not suffer, He just expects us to suffer for His sake if necessary.(martyrdom for example)
John 16: 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - Jesus Christ
So those who say that the Christian life is supposed to be full of hardship is wrong, the Christian life is supposed to be hard work, peace, hardship and suffering for Righteous(not for no reason), enjoying Eternal Life, Preaching The Gospel and bringing others to Jesus Christ, having God(The Father, The Son(Jesus Christ) and The Holy Spirit) in your life always.
In Jesus Christ Name.

Do you think that the Eastern Orthodox confuse eternal life with the afterlife? In other words, who are you talking to?

To a Majority of my Brothers and Sisters in Jesus Christ, in general, not just The Church.

Total speculation on my part, but I am hoping this is not Alfred Persson or somebody else, trying to sneak back in with a different tactic. I don't know. Just a guess.

Yeah, true. For which, I return to my 'cat on the keyboard' theory.

Funny, because I'm against penal substitution. I have no idea what that is. Some kind of vein disease? Everyone that is neither Orthodox, Nestorian, nor Catholic is a Protestant for me.

No, Alfred was pretty coherent.
I agree with this as well. Perhaps I am hallucinating, but I recall he also altered his preconceived notions due to the feedback that he obtained here. Maybe few and far between but that is my recollection.

I think he is OK. He posted here on Dec. 30 due to a moderational glitch. I would certainly give him my patronage if I ended up stranded in Menifee or Temecula (can't remember exactly where he is).
