when it comes to God why is mercy and justice different?

isn't mercy an expression of justice? and isn't justice an expression of love?

Seems like they're all interconnected, yes.

God's characters are interconnected and do not contradict with each other, just like 9 fruits (Characters) of Holy Spirit.

then why when i say this to people. They keep asking "why does justice and mercy have to be causally linked?" as if I was saying something irrational?
