St. Daniel the Prophet

« on: December 21, 2012, 07:55:16 PM »

I recently learned a young woman who used to work for me, and has become a good friend, has breast cancer.  She is 25 years old, now getting a divorce (I won't get into why, but the husband isn't a nice person), and has two children, one with a disability which requires constant medical attention.  She is young, beautiful, full of life and is doing the best she can to adjust to this discovery; however, I know there will come a point she breaks.  It always happens and when that time comes, she will need more support than what we can give her here.  She has just begun the treatment process.  The good news is this is supposed to be one of the easiest breast cancers to treat.  The bad news is, she has had it for the better part of a year and just found out what it is, so no one knows if it has spread anywhere else and if it has, apparently that creates a less than desirable prognosis.

Please pray for her and her children.  Even though she is close to her family, she basically is the only provider for these very young children.  I won't go into personal details, but I will provide her name for those who wish to pray for her, Melissa.  Thank you!

I wanted to provide a little update.

She had some testing come back which indicates it is genetic and will require a double mastectomy.  This also, if I understand correctly, indicates it will likely reappear down the road in another part of her body.  My wife has been keeping me updated, so the last part I may have wrong.  In any event, she is scheduled for surgery and chemo.

The good news is she is keeping her spirits high.  She went wig shopping and seemed to have a fun time doing it.  Please don’t forget her in your prayers.  Thanks!

She had what appears to be a successful surgery.  While she was in the hospital, her son also had a surgery which had been scheduled for some time.  Both are home and recovering well.  All the testing so far looks positive showing the cancer does not appear to have spread anywhere else.  Thanks again for praying for my friend!

Speaking of updates on prayer forums…

There was another concern recently.  The doctors thought it may have spread to her ovaries, but it turned out not to be the case.  Her surgery appears to have been successful and her treatment seems to be going as expected.  At this point, only time will tell.  The ordeal has placed a strain on her family and friend relations.  I am not sure if this is normal, but from my experiences it is.  Hopefully this strain will pass quickly.   Additionally, her son is doing splendidly.

Thanks again for the prayers!

Glory to God in all things.  May she and her family and friends get through this strain and allow that time heal all wounds through the grace of God.
