Counting the minutes!!! lol, no doubt! When the time finally came for my chrismation I couldn't believe that the time had finally come and yet here I was about to be initiated into the Orthodox Faith. Thnx everyone for the kind words. Does anyone have any suggestions for devotions I might use during the day Weds in preperation for Weds evening? If anyone could suggest a favorite akathist or prayer or canon (and hopefully provide a link) I would apprecitate it. Also I'm not receiving Holy Communion until Thursday morning Divine Liturgy of the Theophany.

Good ol' Jesus Prayer...Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, the sinner.
Pre-Communion prayers, too...usually available in an appendix of any good prayer book.

Congratulations David The Jordanville Prayerbook is a good source. Mine was about $15 and is excellent. Here is it online http://stmaryofegypt.org/prayerbook/ and constant reading of the Psalter is recommended. Here is an Orthodox Psalter http://www.pomog.org/psalter.shtml I have read that in the early church those preparing for Baptism were kept in constant prayer, primarily the psalter, to prepare them for their reception into the Church. I hope to be received some time this year as well. I will remember you in my prayers. |

That seems like a good idea and reminds me of something.
A while back I remember reading an article by the late Greek Theologian/Historian John Romanides in which he his belief that the early Christians, 3rd &4th century, would have catechumens constantly read the Psalter and that the Church readings from the first three Gospels would help them on their journey and developing their knowledge of Jesus Christ and the Salvation of man. Then once they had been baptized on Pascha the reading from the Gospel of John would lead them to a deeper and more profound understanding of who Jesus Christ is as they are now partaking of communion. Though this is not what the earliest churches did it sounded interesting and made sense considering the Church lectionary.
