Just out of curiousity, what do you fellows believe is going to happen on the 21st of December which is coming up in like one week now? I mean, I know that nothing is really going to happen in regards to the "world ending" and all that crap, but I mean from a sociological point of view, what is going to happen in regards to all of the people who believe in this? Personally, I am actually a bit afraid. I think that it could be a dangerous day. Some of these people are absolutely insane, and they have huge stockpiles of firearms and aren't afraid to use them, believing that they are truly in danger. I imagine that we might see mass religious suicides and possibly a couple more whackos going on shooting rampages. I'll definitely be staying home that day.

I think it is going to be a day of big struggle. I mean, there's probably work that needs to be done in the office and everyone including myself is in Christmas vacation mode.

For most people, not a dang thing is going to happen. Probably some bars will have funny 'end of the world' parties. And the day after that, I'll just go back to waiting for Christmas, like normal.

Hopefully the History Channel will rebroadcast its many hours of speculation before the big day. It's not likely to make very good repeat programming if the world survives.

Sadly, yes. I work with a few of them. I pray that when they realize their erroneous beliefs, they'll be more open to authentic Christianity found in the Eastern Orthodox Church. As for myself, I'll probably start the day off with Fruity Pebbles and soy milk.

This really bothers me: a local radio station did a "man on the street" type thing where they asked random people what they would do if it really were the end of the world. A couple of people said they'd spend more time with their families, but the rest said they'd steal, have lots of illicit sex, even kill someone they didn't like.
I wonder if they realize that what they're really saying is they'd be willing to go to the final judgment with blood and sin on their souls? Because the end of tje world, among other things, would be that, for each of us ...
(FWIW this interview took place the day before the CT shootings ... I'd like to believe some of those answers may have been different a day or so later ...)

All they need to do is send you $500 now for processing. I would also mention, for credibility purposes, that you don't live in Nigeria.

The school board probably frowns on Mayan re-inactments. But way way to bring history alive than through human sacrifice? "Could I have a volunteer from the audience?"

You should try and go to Europe and Asia. The french are being overrun by doomsday preppers and new age followers, a chinese man has just stabbed 23 people(nobody died though). There have been panick scenes in Russia. It's crazy.
As far as i am concerned, state television is broadcasting a huge show to celebrate the end of the world, so it will probably just be an evening with me and my armchair.

I think that for the vast majority of folks, nothing will happen. However some tinfoil hat types will do something drastic, and other tin foil hat folks will point to it and say they were right. Also, those making money on this will either say "It was the end of our current thinking" or other such nebulous nonsense, while others will say that the date was incorrect and propose a new date.

Not true. The sun only doesn't rise for 3 days at the Winter Solstice if you are above th Arctic Circle. After that you'll get short days but there will still be sunrise and sunsets until Summer Solstice where the Sun doesn't set for 3 days.

But then if you live in an igloo in Barrow, Alaska, sunrise isn't for another three months.
Not true. The sun only doesn't rise for 3 days at the Winter Solstice if you are above th Arctic Circle. After that you'll get short days but there will still be sunrise and sunsets until Summer Solstice where the Sun doesn't set for 3 days. What sources are you reading?

Depends if you really like snow and bone breaking (literally) cold. Or if you live in the West Coast like I do, endless rain.

Anything above the Arctic Circle has the same effect during Winter Solstice. That is how they figured out how to mark the arctic circle in the first place. That is the region of the earth that the sun does not rise on during Winter Solstice. But it only happens for 1 day to 3 days. Though the days before and after the sunrise and sunset would also be relatively short, I guess most people wouldn't consider it having daylight at all. But scientifically, how they define sunrise and sunset, they do experience that the other days, no matter how brief the difference between. I live in the Lower Mainland, and we don't see the sun from September to May. It's all gray clouds and rain

Good for you then. I'm lucky and hoping that it won't snow in the city here in Vancouver. I'm trying to avoid to buy winter tires for my minivan. Temperature here never stays below zero anyway, save for a week or two. Though our local mountains are getting a huge dump of snow now, great news if you love skiing.

We also have a fraction of the snow clearing budget most Canadian cities have. As long as the winter of 2008 doesn't happen again soon, we're fine. We had 2-feet of snow over Christmas that year and secondary roads weren't cleared of snow for a month! Despite above than freezing temperatures, city just didn't have the money to plow secondary roads. Rule of thumb, buy a home on a street that a bus drives through. Otherwise, don't expect any snow clearing.

I lived in Northern Minnesota on the Mesabi Iron Range for a short time. Most sunny days were 15 below. Nights were usually 20 to 30 below. It could get down to 50 or 60 below zero once in a while. There was always something white in the air, either a lot or just a dusting but all the time; The times it got up to zero you could feel a bit a warmth in the air and could unzip a little. You had to plug you car into an electric outlet to keep your oil from freezing. All parking lots had an outlet in front of each space. It sucked

BEIJING— Chinese police have detained more than 500 people from a fringe Christian group for spreading rumours about the world’s impending end, state media reported Tuesday. .... Those detained are reported to be members of the group Almighty God, which is also called Eastern Lightning, after a phrase from the Bible’s Book of Matthew. Widely regarded as a heretical Christian sect, the group preaches that Jesus has reappeared as a woman in central China. It has been accused of targeting Christians, kidnapping and beating them to force conversions. .... Eastern Lightning first appeared around 20 years ago, and the official Xinhua News Agency said that its members had “recently latched on to the Mayan doomsday prophesy to predict that the sun will not shine and electricity will not work for three days beginning on Dec. 21.” .... The state-run Huashang website last week, citing local authorities, reported that the group is urging followers to “exterminate the great red dragon” — a reference to the Communist Party — “and found a country under the rule of Almighty God.”

Going to Liturgy at 10AM (EST). Non Orthodox likely don't know of the Forefeast of the Nativity though while they may know it is the end of one Mayan calendar.

We cannot legislate morality by passing laws controlling firearms. The only evil we can combat lies within our hearts. We need stronger laws to protect the moral foundation of society against the evil of gay marriage.

What happened? I forgot to turn my alarm on and was fifteen minutes late for work.
Even then, the world did not end.

Well, I am still alive. Time to go laugh at all the people who actually believed in this crap. They'll probably say that we were "left-behind" lol and that the Pope is the anti-Christ who poisons Bibles or some crap.

Isn't it all clear now? The Holy Calendar of St. Julius the Passionbearing Czar was the right one all along. The papist calendar is now officially proven wrong. So, that means we still have some two weeks left.
