I'm looking for some books on the theological history of this subject. I am thinking here of things like the Council of Basel (1431) that I mentioned in the other thread, where papal supremacy in some form was argued against. By Proto-Protestant I mean the early rumblings of what would turn into the Reformation. Is there a good history of this period and the precursors of Luther, Calvin, et al., written in English?

The most relevant title I could find was Mandell Creighton's The Council of Basel - The Papal Restoration, 1418-1464.

Probably of interest could be Euan Cameron's Waldenses and Margaret Aston's Lollards and Reformers.

Hope that helps.
