Metr. Kallistos Ware's book "The Orthodox Church". I've heard many good things about it. What do you think, was it a good purchase?

I like it. A bit too popular-level for what I'd prefer reading, but I like it nonetheless.  Smiley

I enjoyed it, though I doubt the historical chapters will teach you anything you didn't already know (seeing as you wrote a 93-page paper on the East Roman Empire). Its a good, easy-to-read introduction to Orthodox history and Orthodox thought.

Historically - yes, theologically - OK (for me).

have flicked through it, and you should read it and understand it easily as u already know quite a lot.
did u already read the 'orthodox way'?
i have recently received (wedding anniversary present!) books about metropolitan antony (the russian orthodox one who lived and died in uk) and father arseny (the one who had a lot of trouble with the soviet regime and died in 1975).
have to get off internet now as i have wonderful books waiting for me!

I read this book recently.  I appreciated the historical survey which provides a thorough introduction.  I am about finished with the Orthodox Way.  These are goods books to pass on to people in the future who might be inquiring.

My mom read the list of books I ordered and commented on every title but skipped the "The Orthodox Church". I don't think she's very charmed with it Smiley

Why not?!

Because she wouldn't like to see me becoming Orthodox.

Because it is dogmatic, strange, strict, etc. I think. What does your mom think about it? Anyway, I'm taking her to an icon exposition nearby.

Well. I guess it's grown on her somewhat. She doesn't mind anymore. In fact I got her to enjoy pierogies so she's just steps away from converting herself.  angel
