....just as they were preparing to celebrate their Feast Day today....this happens. Fr. Anthony, of pastor at St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church, is a strong man and his joy is always infectious. I pray that the Lord strengthens him and his parish, so, they can rebuild and worship in an even better building.... The Church is more than a building, but, lives in the hearts and souls of her faithful....and even with the firemen still on the scene, the faithful gather in the small chapel to celebrate their Feast Day! Quote from Fr. Anthony this morning - "Fire out, thank God (and His wonderful firefighters). Antimens, tabernacle, and St Michael icon salvaged while fire still going. Thanks for prayers. St Michael liturgy at 10 in chapel." Lord, have mercy! http://www.uocofusa.org/news_121121_1.htmlhttp://www.wpri.com/dpp/news/local_news/blackstone/crews-fighting-fire-woonsocket-church This was the inside of the church only two weeks ago, when Metropolitan Antony visited.

I've served there many times as a deacon. The church is beautiful and the community is a blessing. Our parish in Boston has a close connection with St. Michael's thru marriage and they will be in our constant thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more. A hasty quarrel kindles fire, and urgent strife sheds blood. If you blow on a spark, it will glow; if you spit on it, it will be put out; and both come out of your mouth

My heart is breaking, looking at that picture. I read the cause was a smoldering charcoal from the kadillo. When Fr. Roman first came to our parish as our new pastor, a local Protestant church had a major fire on Dec. 25th, so Father is always concerned that ALL candles are extinguished and the kadillo's charcoal is smothered. This news will really set him off on being cautious, as it will me, too.

I don't think they know the cause. They were actually thinking it might be electrical in nature. Folks are already gathering to begin the cleanup. Praying that God grants them strength and they are able to put things back in order quickly. Lord, have mercy!

Here's the link I got from FaceBook: http://www.woonsocketcall.com/node/6760"It took just a few hours for investigators to determine that the cause of the fire was accidental. The state fire marshal blamed the fire on leftover coal and ashes from an incense burner placed in a plastic bucket. The ashes had apparently been left in the church the previous evening, following a service in honor of church’s patron saint."

If it was improper disposal of charcoal and/or incense in a plastic bucket, who would been deemed responsible for the fire? Does the parish have a "palomar" who assists in the altar or would a younger alter boy have disposed of the charcoal improperly? I doubt the priest would have done that as it seems that would be something a younger altar boy could possibly accidentally done. If that was indeed the cause of the fire, who would be held responsible?

Hopefully it won't affect their fire insurance.

Ohhhhh.....that's even worse than an electrical fire. The poor, poor person who did that. Imagine how they must feel. Let's hope nobody is too hard on them, whether child or adult is responsible.
Lord, have mercy!!!

Lord have mercy.
Last person out usually has the responsibility for insuring that everything is okay before setting the burglar alarm (if there is one) and closing (locking) the door. With Thanksgiving approaching, it is easy to get distracted.
Lord have mercy.

Greetings in that Divine and Most Precious Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! OUCH!! That is a tragic picture On this Saint Michael the Archangel's monthly commemoration, I pray the Lord grants this parish the blessed in disguise opportunity to rebuild their church in honor of Saint Michael, and that the Lord sends His angels to assist us all in these efforts like the Angels were sent to help the builders of the Temple or of the rock hewn churches of Lalibela, Ethiopia. stay blessed, habte selassie
