Nos sure there are many people here who know what white singing is but I'd like to share a good result of mixing it with electronic music (and I do not like electronic)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jgvFPJXJ9Y

Unfortunately it's only a sample. I couldn't find anything more.

To be frankly, that's a direct translation of Polish (or Belarusian) term. IDK whether you have a term for that in English (and how it is named if you do). I couldn't find anything about that in English Wikipedia.

From listening to that horrible "mash-up" I listened to other more traditional examples of "white singing".

To my ears, it would be similar to the Bluegrass / Classic Country register (~head voice) done very loudly near screaming.

The example in the OP is a little more reserved than the traditional form it seems.

Do you remember these posts of mine?

Hard to get across Shape Note / Sacred Harp if you ain't in the square.

Greenwich

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJCC4Nrvvw0

This is American Orthodox Hymnography.

Because you loved the above and we are heading toward Pascha . . .

Quote
'He dies, the friend of sinners dies' (SH 163, 'Morning') and 'The Lord is ris'n indeed!' (SH 236, Easter Anthem), both appropriate to the Easter Season.

Here are the words to 'Morning,'as here sung:

He dies, the friend of sinners dies.
Lo, Salem's daughters weep around;
A solemn darkness veils the skies,
A sudden trembling shakes the ground.

Here's love and grief beyond degree:
The Lord of glory dies for men:
But lo! what sudden joys we see!
Jesus, the dead revives again.

The rising God forsakes the tomb:
Up to His Father's throne He flies,
Cherubic legions guard Him home
And shout Him welcome to the skies. (Isaac Watts, 1709)

These are the words to Billings' 'Easter Anthem':

The Lord is ris'n indeed! Hallelujah!
Now is Christ risen from the dead
And become the first-fruits of them that slept. Hallelujah!
And did He rise? Did He rise?
Hear it, ye nations, hear it o ye dead!
He rose, he rose, he burst the bars of death,
He burst the bars of death and triumphed o'er the grave.
Then, then, then I rose,
Then first humanity triumphant passed the crystal ports of light
And seized eternal youth!
Man, all immortal hail, hail,
heaven, all lavish with strange gifts to man,
Thine's all the glory, man's the boundless bliss! (Edward Young)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlz70-TfcaI

Christ is Risen, indeed!

Sacred Harp goes to Eastern Europe . . . I'll knock it off now. It's just that this is some of the stuff I grew up with and it is weird almost no one knows of it.

It's soon to become a cultural artifact from the past and nothing else, if new life ain't breathed into it by real Christians. I showed up at a sing and eat here in the city once. Some old timers but a lot of just arts and crafts folks who could just as easily be yodeling or doing Buddhist chant the next day.

This is something unique to the US and truly uncanny and easily picked up and done.

To Poland with Love (you can see how quickly even in another language these folks were able to pick up the system with lotsa help of course):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NkG7vm50Ns

See the late quote Poles are learning the style. I wondered why in Poland of all places, perhaps the tradition of "white singing" is why.

Check out that thread and I post other examples.

Thanks for helping me put a piece into this puzzle.

If you heard people singing it from a more southern and rural area, the similarities in singing mechanics are much closer.

I don't like most folk singing, but I could get behind this "white singing". I'll certainly pass it on to someone I know will love it.

Thanks.

This "Sacred Harp" stuff is great. They only could use some solo parts.

Did you look at the history of it?

It is actually hard to get across what it is like, unless you are participating.

Solo parts would be antithetical to it, but I could see how they could be incorporated to make it more interesting to listen to, but before everything else Sacred Harp is to do. The meet and sings often go on for hours and hours.

Before I make a similar elegiac turn as I did in that thread I quoted, I'll stop.

Glad you enjoy it.

There is only one problem with your theory. I'd surprised if more than several thousands of people Poland knew about white singing (not to mention could sing like that).

There are a lot of good examples of white singing that can be heard on iTunes, such as the Dmitri Pokrovsky Ensemble and Kitka.

No one in America knows about Sacred Harp so it fits, but from the youtube links it looks like it was feature in a Hollywood movie, so maybe that has changed.

Au contraire. They's a whole passel of us here in the South that know about the Sacred Harp. I've been to many singings and dinners on the ground. The food is great!
Sitting in the square and singing you feel the music physically.

!! Huh "No one"??  Not hardly.  I've known a good number of people in the MD-DC-VA area that have been gathering from time to time to sing Sacred Harp for more than 25 years.  There's a Sacred Harp Sing associated with the Folklore Society of Greater Washington in three weeks.

Song considered to be one of the best compositions by a band considered to be top folk Belarusian bands (and one of the best from all Belarusian bands). Sorry  for the bad quality:
