Just wondering if others have issues lately with Google Chrome? It worked really well for years, but in the last month or so it slows to a crawl, stays open behind the scenes even when 'closed' and eats a whole lot of memory. I have a slow enough computer running XP. Also, flash keeps crashing even if i disable it or reinstall it. I've tried Google's help forum ideas and still nothing better.

We use Google Chrome where I work. It's done a few of those things, yes.  Lips Sealed

Possible hardware issues like a hard drive about to go bad.  Chrome is accessing the bad part of the hard drive, resulting in the slow down.

Wish I could be more of a help but I can say that Chrome has gotten worse over time.

This is on different machines I use throughout the week and different OSs.

I might jump browsers again.

I doubt hardware issues are causing any of your problems.

I'm having the same issues with Chrome as well. Undecided

Something that has worked in the past for browser slowdowns is to start a new user profile, and delete the old one after you try it,and it helped, this will clear corrupt files causing trouble.

try it b4 you delete old one, see if it works normal on the new one .it is an easy fix but you will lose some of your old settings and data .

One other thing. Clean out your Browsing history. Cookies, temp Internet files, cache, etc.

All the porn is bogging down that browser. Lol just kidding.

If it makes you feel any better, I had to do a complete system restore yesterday after I did an update and my web browser stopped loading pages altogether.

OK, I have some tabs opened, eg:

[OC.net] [YouTube] [facebook]

I use right-click on some urls at OC.net to open them in new tabs and they open like that:

[OC.net] [Faith Issues] [Other Topics] [YouTube] [facebook]

and how can I change they open like that (all new tabs open at the end):

OC.net] [YouTube] [facebook] [Faith Issues] [Other Topics]

Huh

I figured how to do it in FF, IE but I can't do it here.

Let me see if I understand you correctly....

You WANT them ALL to open at the end, not next to the mother tab?  Right?

You can always click on the new tab, and drag it to the position you want it to be in.

Chrome is odd in this regard as it behaves differently based on how much screen "real estate" you browser is taking up.

There is no setting to adjust within Chrome to force it to either open a new link in an adjacent tab or a tab appended to all of your current tabs.

Basically, if you have a few tabs open (effectively little screen real estate occupied by Chrome) it will open new links into tabs appended your tabs.

If you have "a lot" of tabs open, then it opens them adjacently.

This is based on google's study of how users generally use a tabbed browser.

There could be an extension which overrides all this and opens appends every tab or opens them adjacently, takes you to the new tab, etc. I dunno, I haven't checked.

Sigh. Thank you for your time.

...it takes all of two seconds.  Smiley

I usually open about a dozen of new tabs and moving them all would be annoying.

Check your settings for things like google chat and what not. I think there is a way to keep those running in the background even after closing Chrome (should be in settings -> advanced settings -> background apps). That right there could be the cause of Chrome staying open behind the scenes.

As to the rest... old computer is old. Flash is probably crashing because your processor/video card/driver can't keep up with all of the new updates.

Also, I know Chrome just did some kind of big new update thing. That could be causing all kinds of problems for a system as old as yours. As of yet I have not experienced too many problems (not noticeable any way).

My recommendation: time to update your computer. Just make sure you know what OS you're getting (Windows 8, OSx, etc), and that it will be one you are comfortable with.
