Same dude, Sacred Mirrors, Christ and Sophia in "The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors which is ""Building an enduring sanctuary of visionary art to inspire every pilgrim's creative path and embody the values of love and evolutionary wisdom".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chapel_of_Sacred_Mirrors

One look at his paintings, and the biography pretty much writes itself, it's amazing.

This self promoting and rather dubiously sourced article does make me wonder though what Nirvana and Beastie Boys had to do with any this?  My guess is, probably very very little.  I can however, see this kind of thing existing as some sales tent at the Burning Man festival.

My favorite tag on one of the pictures: "A visitor appreciates a work of art"

Is it schlock? I love this icon but I feel his angry face is improper.

Schlock Coptic icon

Not sure...but I like it.  He looks to me as if angry at sin, and seems to reflect what we Copts say in the liturgy, "the Strong St. Abba Moses"

A Syriac priest on my Facebook mentioned three uncanonical things about this icon: a) shadows b) angry face c) impression of movement

I would agree with the priest, it's not very iconographic, but it certainly isn't heretical. If you like it, use it. Just buy a copy of an icon by Andrei Rublev to work out the Feng Shui of your icon corner.

What canons are there against any of these three things?

I don't particularly like the icon myself but let's stop inventing rules to enforce our tastes.

I agree for C. B is disputable and as for A I do not see any shadows in there.

I would also add D: too much yellow everywhere but it's only a decoration argument.

There is shading in the icon (folds, sleeves, etc) but in that case almost all icons (including "canonical ones") have shadows.

These icons are on permanent display in an Anglican church that an acquaintance of mine attends here in Canada. Depicted are Jewish homosexual activist Harvey Milk, Martin Luther King, and Jesus as some sort of social justice-touting black man, among others.

I wasn't aware of this individual before. Unfortunately, the display of the sacrilegious icons he paints about sums up the state of Anglicanism and mainstream Protestantism in Canada - Christ has been removed from the equation, and these institution essentially just peddle a progressive secular-humanitarian agenda with generous helpings of gay and "trans" rights rhetoric.

I can't speak to the state of the Anglican Church of Canada. In the US the average Episcopalian wouldn't have a problem with the MLK icon because (a) he has been on the kalendar for ages, and (b) we don't have the sort of stylistic conventions/rules that the Orthodox have. The Harvey Milk travesty is a completely different story, starting from the fact that he was never a Christian. Getting killed because he was gay as a kind of churchly martyrdom is dear to a few liberal flagship city parishes, but it's just not on the chart for most parishes, even liberal suburban parishes.

Given that King was a known blasphemer and womanizing philanderer, I can't say his presence is any less inappropriate than Milk's.

Blasphemer? Where do you get that?

He was recorded in hotel rooms with prostitutes shouting obscenities invoking God's name during their activities.

Blasphemy or doxology?

At least the Anglicans mean it well by canonising MLK, I can't tell about these stories you're telling but at least we can be sure they meant to include him for the Christian and heroic example he gave in his public life. Canonising Milk, on the other hand, is pure evil even at the core of its intentions. Why not canonising Che Guevara since we're stepping there?

"I'm ******* for God!" - I guess it depends on one's interpretation.

It's more likely that they included him to further their secular social justice agenda. I've been reading a great deal on Fr. Seraphim Rose lately, and they've become precisely the modern institution he detested, carrying on at length about temporal issues but removing Christ from the equation.

I've narrowed my patron/name down to a shortlist of four:

...

2. Tsar Nicholas II - I'm a huge supporter of monarchy - to the extent that absolute monarchy is my ideal form of government - and the last Tsar gave up his life in the fight first against liberalism, and then against the Satanic forces of Marxism which brought death and destruction on an unprecedented scale to Russia. when doing so quite literally got thousands of others killed.
