Ya, I'm not sure if this one is "icon".  It's more "art gallery" type, not intended for veneration practices.  It tells us a message, similar to the "icon" of the "non-saint" Origen teaching the saints.

Yes, I meant that  I just liked the art and the message.

"Whether it’s the guillotine, the hangman’s noose, or reciprocal endeavors of militaristic horror, radical evil will never be recompensed with radical punishment. The only answer, the only remedy, and the only truly effective response to radical evil is radical love."

They do. Last decades there's revivial of true icon in Roman Catholicism, after centuries of worshiping images (plus a few icons of the Theotokos), that started in Renessance. This revival is connected with a few things, probaly new technologies (=discovering Eastern Christianity), neocatechumenal way, maybe some thoughts of Vaticanum Secundum.

However, I think that e.g in Poland thanks to the huge Orthodox population there Latins were more aware of icons, especially that our Lady of Częstochowa - the most beloved Theotokos' image by Poles - is in fact an Orthodox icon.

Maybe some Mexicans has Palestinian (or generally speaking, Arab) roots.

Rome condemned it fiercely. Iconoclasm was a very Constantinopolitan thing, its jurisdiction grew a lot in this time, they wouldn't convince other sees so this was the only way to spread the heresy.

Perhaps not the most iconographic, but certainly quite schlocky.

The depicted Jesus looks like he is about to start a Karate Kid pose.  The depicted Father, Mister Miyagi, with one hand teaching you to wax on and the other wax off.  The dove...that came out of nowhere.

It's schlock, in several ways. The artist who painted it has also produced fanciful nonsense (while calling them Name of God icons) like these, at least one of which was posted some time ago on this thread:

This has been posted here before,  but the most interesting thing to me is: how common is it for non-matching tire rim sizes in a bicycle? I have never seen it in the real world, so I  am asking. Icons (or, presicely, frescos) by Stamatis Skliris are well known, but I think this one of st. Elias not so much:

Edit: maybe this one should be considered only as "strange" one.

pretty much:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Grey

This guy is hilarious, and exactly what I envisioned when I saw that picture. Oddly,  he's a Columbus boy too, at least by birth.  Fortunately, he is now New York's problem.

The biography itself is a self promoting sham too, as these new age types tend to be: for example, "spent five years at Harvard Medical School" is misleading, as he didn't do it as a student but as some (probably volunteer) preparing bodies for students.  Anyway, this dude is a relic of the 70's.  Millennials are turned on and tuned in by different schlock aesthetics and social signals.  This is stuff that turned their parents on.

Are those Gala apples?

No, red delicious.

I don't think a great "spiritualist" and symbolist like this fellow who "studied anatomy at Harvard" would have the eye for any other kind of apple.  He just has some generic picture of "apple" in his head, and that's good enough - hence, red delicious.  In fact he probably doesn't even have the eye (or taste) for even a red delicious, just the mind to picture something resembling a red delicious.

Well, that makes sense.  There is no taste in Red Delicious.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.
