It would also be nice if people entered their Date Of Birth and Geographic Location (at least the state they live in)

How about a religion of TomS
Wonderful suggestion! Or perhaps we should set TomS as the Default and thereby insure that everyone corrects the designation Demetri

Frankly, the only reason I am replying to our TomS's post is to preserve, by way of quotation, in his own words, his designation for his own heretical sect Demetri

Wait till Mor Ephrem gets on just so he can see it, then I'll switch it to Oriental Orthodox.

from another thread: Yea, you can't put Eastern Orthodox in your profile until you are actually Orthodox. Robert's Rule.
pshaw. altho, to be technical, catechumen's who have gone thru the service for becoming a catechumen are actually a part of the Orthodox Church. let's not let this religious affiliation option on the profiles be a cause for judging each other's right to call themselves what they identify/affiliate with btw, it may be helpful to include an "unsure" option for this, since it is not a black and white issue for many...i know there is an "other" option, but i think "unsure" is a bit more accurate for many or maybe "inquirer"

I think there should definitely be something like "EO/OO Catechumen/Inquirer" if we are going to continue with pre-set choices. Ideally, I think you should get rid of choices and leave a blank space where they can type (with a max number of characters so it doesn't go overboard) because then people will be more inclined to state what they actually are instead of choosing one of the choices, clarifying it in a post somewhere, and then hope everyone sees it. Leave a blank space and let them type it in. And get rid of Monophysite.

Catechumens are technically as Donna said in the Church they are to be received into so I don't know if I am for a separate field for that.

Yeah, but do you distinguish between catechumens who are formally so (those who have gone through the actual rite prescribed in the service books) and those who are so "by designation" (those who haven't gone through any rite, but are nevertheless preparing for reception)? Catechumens may be "in the Church", but they are not so in the way that those who have already been received are "in the Church". Although he could be given a church funeral. a catechumen cannot go to Communion, for example, until he is baptised and/or chrismated. I think a separate category is appropriate. But, again, I'd rather there be no options at all, and let the person write it in themselves.

I made religious affiliation a text field instead of a drop-down box.
I suggest everyone change theirs to best suit their situation.
