Semaj Lemonjello Orangejello Shithead

Yes, someone named Shithead actually (allegedly) went to my high school.  Edit to add: it's pronounced Shuh-theed

I have heard such a legend from many parts of the country, but it is strange that no one has ever met this person personally.  I suppose if it were my name, I would use an alias though.
Guys! They're not intercoursing. It's just an unfortunate angle.

They could revive some old Plantagenet princely names that never made it to the throne:

Lionel Geoffrey Thomas Humphrey

When he becomes King Lionel, his robes will have quite a train.  HO HO HO!

The Royal Family is hardly "most people", though.

Truth is stranger than fiction. There are genuine surnames that are real shockers, either in another language, or in their own. I know a Russian woman with the surname Vagin, who Very Very Quickly dropped the feminine suffix "a" from it after emigrating. And there's the Greek surname Skouromounis ....

Quite right.

So the contest winners are: TheMathematician, Santagranddad, Basil 320, and Asteriktos for George as a first name. Others had George placed elsewhere. I think James2 was the only one who gave Louis as a name, so consolation prize to him!

Congrats to all! (Including those whose unique contributions were longshots  ;D)

Louis was a good call and was the name of Prince Charles much loved Lord Louis Mountbatten, cruelly blown up by the PIRA off Donegal.

Dumb question.  Why do so many Americans care about this and why is it on the US News nonstop?  Isn't there bigger stories going on in the world?

I have found that there are those who love all the fuss, those who have a passing interest and those baffled by the whole circus. Others just appeared to have become a bit wearied of something a little over done.

But I am baffled by those who spend hours watching TV programmes and films not to mention some sports who might find it surprising that some don't share their enthusiasms and are irritated by all the time and coverage given to the stars and contents of these events. And to those who wonder about American coverage of this child's birth similar questions are asked this side of the pond about coverage of some events on your side of the pond.

Still I don't suppose His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge cares a fig about any of it. ;D bet he's called the sprog behind closed doors.

George is a horrible name for British kings.  So many of them were losers, e.g. George III.

They are peculiar here, in that at a coronation the sovereign may chose an entirely different name from his or her baptismal name. The coronation anointing with oil being seen as a sacramental act. George Vl was one such name changer.

Now George in the Christian tradition is an honourable one, even Moslems seem to favour him. As for poor George lll, was not his madness down to Porphoryia? If so mocking him is in as bad taste as mocking anyone with a condition they cannot help, especially in the light of today's knowledge of health issues.

Truth to tell I wasn't keen on the Hanoverians.

I'm not too keen on the Hanoverians, either, but the only one of the Georges who was a lousy king was George IV.  Not a very good Prince of Wales, either.  The first two Georges were dull but competent.  George II was the last king to lead his army in battle.  The loss of the colonies under George III was probably more due to his ministers and Parliament than to his own doing.  Apart from that he had a long and prosperous reign, and, unlike many royals, was faithful to his wife.  The reign of George III began with a resounding triumph over France in the Seven Years War.  It ended with Great Britain in a dominant position in European affairs, having led the allied powers in the defeat of Bonaparte.  Unfortunately George III was too ill by then to know this.
