How does Fr. Andrew's book compare to the AFR podcast? I've considered buying it, but if it's just the same content as the podcast in book form with nothing new, it'd be kind of silly.

Tremingham "Christianity among the Arabs in pre-Islamic Times", a few books on liturgical languages, etc.) that are really interesting but don't really contain any theology. I guess Aphram I Barsoum's "History of the Syriac Dioceses" also belongs in this category, though Mor Aphram was the Patriarch of Antioch 1933-1957.

It's alot more detailed, and he's got a pretty neat appendix including stuff like atheism. I'm a huge fan of his writing, and can't wait for his next book. |

Anyone who could come close to naming all the books they have in an Orthodox library would not be worthy of naming it an "Orthodox library". Anything less than 3 bookcases worth is noob level at best...

May I suggest folks acquire a comprehensive liturgical library, and acquire a sense of what is good and proper iconography,in part by keeping one's eyes and ears open during as many church services as are available. |

I have the ANF and the NPNF series and a bookshelve full of the sermons and works of Sts. Augustine, Ambrose and Jerome. Only the Latin fathers are translated into Dutch because the majority of the patristic scholars are latins. Oh, and I do have the Ladder of Divine Ascent.

So books are definitely a weakness for me. I am getting rid of a lot of books from my Buddhist phase, etc. I have actually sold close to 60 on amazon over the last couple months (big step!). Most of that money I used to buy the books mentioned below. I am trying to actually read some of these books through before I buy more. As a spiritually immature "disaffected protestant" I realize I have no business reading some of these books - and I don't at this point.
Bloom - Beginning to Pray
Bloom - Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh: Essential Writings (Modern Spiritual Masters)
Colliander - Way of the Ascetics
McGuckin - The Orthodox Church: An Introduction to its History, Theology, & Spiritual Culture

I'd say I'm about half-way through the books listed above (some read some half-read) I hope to have all these books read and digested by next summer. I really don't want to buy anymore Orthodox books until I've managed through these.

Orthodox books can be prohibitively expensive.  With storage space being an issue, most of my reading material is in ebook format and comes from here or here. |
