Such charity on the part of the Catholic Church towards the Orthodox in North America is nothing new, even though AFAIK it wasn’t frequent, and has nothing to do with Vatican II. In the 1920s Archbishop McNeil in Toronto helped the Russians build an Orthodox church and even gave them a chalice, back when such gestures meant something and weren’t debased by lending churches and liturgical vessels to Protestants.
Having seen the heart of Russian New York for the first time recently I wondered if ROCOR, the most Russian church in America, was doing anything for these people and I am happy to see it is. And contra
charges of proselytism, the Catholic Church is acting like a gentleman. Wonderful.
