So almost a month ago St Ignatius Orthodox Theological Seminar in Sweden arranged a dinner which brought together the Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Sweden Benjamin Atas, the Coptic Orthodox Bishop of Scandinavia Anba Abakir, and the Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Northern Europe Macarie Dragoi.  It looks like that dinner wasn't just a one-time thing as around two weeks ago at the St Ignatius Orthodox Theological Seminar in Sweden the Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Sweden Benjamin Atas, the Coptic Orthodox Bishop of Scandinavia Anba Abakir, the Serbian Orthodox Bishop of Scandinavia and Great Britain Dositej, and Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Northern Europe Macarie Dragoi signed a deal for cooperation in the Seminar. The cooperation will occur through St. Ignatius Seminar. The seminar covers both the Oriental (Syrian Orthodox, Coptic, Ethiopian, Armenian) and Byzantine (Russian, Greek, Serbian, etc.) Church families and is the first of its kind in the world. The seminar wants, through its teaching, to work for a complete reunion to take place between the two Church families and a way for this is to study theology and the Church Fathers together.   |

Maybe they did a secret deal with Syriacs that they agree with this provided that Syriacs convince Armenians to get rid of heretical hats. |

It seems like I left Sweden too early...
These meetings should have included a representative from the Antiochian Orthodox church, since they are highly active in Sweden specially in Göteborg, where I used to live. I know that Bishop Ignatius is visiting Sweden in Novemeber, maybe HG will be able to meet with them in a further meeting.

Obviously the theological issues are not resolved. See: The seminar wants, through its teaching, to work for a complete reunion to take place between the two Church families and a way for this is to study theology and the Church Fathers together. It furthers inter-church relations on a more local level where it could have a real impact, which is something special dialogue committees cannot accomplish. |
