'St. Augustine Pray for Me'

« on: October 18, 2012, 05:24:38 PM »

Long story short, my old man offered me a job and I make $25 a day from it, and I work about 3-4 days a week. Doing the math, I should be making about $75-$100 bucks a week. With this amazing income, I want to save up my money for the gadget my heart desires most: a Macbook laptop computer.  The problem is, I do not know which one to get, the Macbook Air or the Macbook Pro.

On the one hand, I am in love with the appearance of the Macbook Air and I like how lightweight and portable it is. But on the other hand, it lacks a disc drive and built-in antenna for wi-fi. I would have to buy those things separately. The Macbook Pro on the other hand is excessively heavy and ugly in my opinion, making it less portable, but it does possess all of those features.

So which one should I save up for? Also, I've never dealt with having this much money before (at least it seems like a lot to me) how can I manage it wisely and prevent myself from wasting it away on stuff I don't need or using it to impress my friends and girls like an idiot?

Btw, I'm not greedy, I already give many portions of my money to either charity or my Church quite frequently, and I've saved up about $400 of money I plan to donate to charity at the end of the year.

Prepare for those telling you to get neither.

I would agree.

For the amount of money you are bringing in going with a linux distribution on a much cheaper laptop would be the way to go.

I say this as an owner of a Macbook for a long time. I am very tough on hardware and it has easily put up with me.

You gotta understand, I'm jaded. I've used Mac products for a long time, but I've hit so many roadblocks with that platform that Windows was the only way to go, for now.

I love the ThinkPads. Especially the W series. Superb stuff.

Meh.

Might be better off doing refurbished, and since he's in Cali, probably has a Micro Center or Frys

Let's target $1000 and I'll hook you up with a laptop that will last you for a longtime.

My philosophy is more bang for the buck.

Which is hypocritical to say because I dropped over 2 grand on my desktop rig.
