Plus, Achronos, if you horrify her and she flees with that sheet wrapped around herself, people will think she's making some deep religious statement and won't suspect you of any indiscretion.

I'm neither Russian nor a soldier, but I wear one like this:

http://www.gallerybyzantium.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=31_50&products_id=228

I confess I simply liked the design - and it's silver rather than gold, which is a plus for me. I'm really not a fan of gold. There is one small downside to it, however. There's a pointy bit at the top which has woken me up at night by jabbing me in the throat on more than one occasion.

My godsons and I have that cross. I've never had a problem with the pointy thing stabbing me, though.

Could put holy relics inside and use as impromptu altar in case of emergencies.

This is one that my godfather gave me.  I asked him once where he got it and he said he didn't remember.  I suspect that he got it at a monastery he visits regularly, but where they got it would be another mystery.

hey, not ALL our icons have tasteless flashing lights, maybe about 10% from what i've seen
(maybe it's more in north america).
i have a nice women's cross (pattern like rays of sun on it) which used to belong to my God mother,
which she gave me on the day i revealed my other one had broken (it was a tiny thin metal one and now sits
in the car, wrapped in transparent tape!).

i arrived at the house without the cross, and was not allowed to leave like that!

i definitely recommend a tattoo, then you can't loose it.
the traditional place is on the inside of the right wrist, but if you want to be sure it's noticed,
you can get a second one on the back of the hand towards the thumb side.

My wife and I were both given crosses with relics as a wedding present, which we now wear most of the time (unless going somewhere where there's a chance of losing it). I had never thought about using it as an impromptu antimension though!

Yes, I bought it from them. My daughter's godmother bought her a baptismal cross from them and I was impressed by the quality so I bought myself the one I'm wearing. If I remember rightly there was a slight delay waiting for mine to be made as well, but I don't think it was excessive.

Better than what happened to me when I slept with my cross: The chain nearly strangulated me after getting caught in the sheets, several times (which despite what some weirdos here thought, is not pleasurable).

When I was stationed at the Boston Navy Yard back in the 60's, I picked up this cross at O'Brians Catholic Book Store.... a precursor to moving to Orthodoxy.

Worn it ever since....
