Announcing:

The OrthodoxChristianity.net Fund Drive

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We need your help!

Here is why:

This site costs $ 40.00 per month.

To keep
OrthodoxChristianity.net
operating we
need your donation.

The current balance for October 2012 is
$ 39.33.  I’d like you to join me in giving to
 OrthodoxChristianity.net.

Donations have been few and far between.

All it would take to “pay the bill” each month
would be small donations from our members.

Please consider making a donation to the “Treasury” here on
OrthodoxChristianity.net
to keep us on the Net.

Thank you!

Please make sure to donate on a regular basis.  If 40 of us give $1 a month, every month, problem solved!

Last month, the first for the fund drive was great.  We exceeded our goal.  Hopefully we can meet this month's goal with your generosity.

We had over two-hundred people visit the site according to today's statistics.  It would be nice to hear from more of our members.

It goes directly to funding the operation/upkeep of the site:  aka, paying the bill for hosting the site.  There's a break-down somewhere on the site of exactly where the money goes to.

To answer the question posed above, donations ebb and flow.  Over time, we meet our goals, but sometimes we don't. When we go over in a month, it averages out the times we don't make the goal.

Here's how it works: money donated goes through the OCnet Treasury application to a paypal account that is under my control and is recorded in the private Administration dashboard area of OCnet for tracking purposes.  I pay the bills for OCnet out of my personal funds, and then reimburse myself from this paypal account. Besides their being able to see the Treasury application totals in the Admin section, I maintain a basic accounting spreadsheet that is available to the other administrators for purposes of open, full disclosure, and transparency.

When we get more than we need, which has happened a few times, I pre-pay the server costs in advance even further, because we get a discount by doing that.  Eventually, within 1-2 years, we are also going to need more server space, since the forum database is getting huge. So that factors into my planning purposes as well.

The most money we ever stockpiled at one time was about $700, at which point I prepaid the server for two years. It is good through sometime in 2014 currently. Moneys collected now will be used to renew the server after that point, and toward the upcoming server expansion (which might increase our cost by something like 25-35%, but don't quote me on that, as I don't have the numbers in front of me).

If we ever got a really big windfall, I might also consult with the other administrators and moderators about ways to expand the site beyond its current reach; I had always wanted to make OCnet more than "just" a forum (although never compromising/jeopardizing this primary mission, since we do it so well), but time constraints and resource constraints have prevented that heretofore.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We still need your support for this forum.

Beyond the monthly fee we need donations for big projects
like updating the site.

Last month did not end as well as previous months have.

If you have not donated before, please do.

Thank you!

I'm just a member.  I started giving to the treasury and wanted to encourage other members to give as well.  Especially, during the fasts.  I've been encouraged by one of our administrators to continue with the fund drive.

Because I told him so.

I would guess one might be able to mail a donation directly to Anastasios, the owner.
