You can even get an icon of St. Leo the great with an excerpt from his vesperal stichera on the scroll, "What shall we call thee, O Holy Father Leo, head of the Orthodox Churches of Christ?" Yes, indeed. No qualms with the papal claims of Leo I.

Let's create a saint like St Josaphat, but St Thomas Aquinas in Orthodox form.

According to the Western Captivity, isn't that St. Peter Moghila or something?

To be honest, there are quite a few things within the Eastern Orthodox Church that I find beautiful and alluring, but those same things, I believe I can find in the Catholic Church. What is more, there are some doctrines in the Eastern Orthodox Church with which I disagree. I'm not here to fight about those things, as I'm a guest, but these are the reasons why I remain where I am... that and I'm a big 'ol honkin Thomist. Smiley

The Orthodox are catholic. The Catholics are orthodox. And each one will protest such till the end of time.

We are also the Church of Christ, and the real witnesses of Jehovah, and the ones with the valid Baptism (so true Baptists), and the ones with the right Method to get to Heaven (Methodists), and the ones with the real Gospel (true Evangelicals). Etc, etc. But insisting on these titles doesn't facilitate discussion.

Make it happen, bro.

EDIT: At the very least you could join a WR parish so you're not too homesick.

Which is equivalent to saying that an Eastern Orthodox should (at the very least) convert to Eastern Catholicism. How many do you know who have done that? Not too many I would guess.

The interesting thing is that there is not much of an Eastern Orthodox presence here in Albuquerque. There is lovely Greek Orthodox parish, St. George's, which has had a very positive relationship with the local Byzantine Catholic Parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. There is also a small OCA mission, with very few parishoners. We definitely don't have any Western Rite Orthodox parishes. I believe there is Russian Orthodox parish just north of us in Santa Fe.
In any case, there are Catholic Churches on just about every corner.  Cheesy

Vico is supposed to be Eastern Catholic, but any thread he goes into he answers with citations from the Code of Canon Law, CCC, Papal documents, etc.  You can't be more legalistic than that, and this is from someone who says he is EC.

Don't the Eastern Orthodox also have a canon law that they must follow, and don't they cite the Church Fathers regularly?

Canon Law is interpreted by the discretion of Bishops. It is not a strict legal system.

I Agree.  Ancient Hebrew didnt use vowels only consonants.   Jehovah a dirivative of Yahweh can not be a dependable expression of God's name.

Don't the Eastern Orthodox also have a canon law that they must follow, and don't they cite the Church Fathers regularly?

The purpose of Canon Laws have become different between East and West.  Sadly, every internet Roman Catholic thinks he is a Canon Law expert and can use it to win internet debates or admonish someone else.

I won't even touch the stuff. For a person to really use canon law in a debate, that person has to be pretty well acquainted with the law.
