Because I feel like it deserves its own.

Baby alpacas... or llamas:

Baby alpaca (it doesn't even look real!):

This...this is the greatest thread. This is why Al Gore invented the internet.

Also, the other thread inspired me to find the nearest llama farm...turns out there's one only about 30 minutes away, within the city limits! It's surprising, as I hadn't figured that alpacas would do well in the desert, but now that I know know that they're here...well, I know where I'm going to visit this summer! Grin

Watch out.  They may look cuter than their cousin the camel, but they are just as nasty in disposition, and spit and bite.

Like a Desert Father who chastises a novice in a way that seems unnecessarily rude, these animals are merely pretending to be nasty so as to hide the true glory that resides in the depths of their being. Let us not be discouraged by outward and superficial nastiness!

Well yeah...I'm not going to hug them or whatever. I'm just going to...I dunno...go look at them? Haha. I don't know. I kind of assume that the cuter the wild animal, the meaner it is. I know that to be the case with koalas, and very few things are as cute as koalas. It's like God's way of keeping balance in the world, so that there can still be koalas and alpacas out in the wild, and not just in Ortho_Cat's house...

I'd like to share with you ZZ's First Law of Animaldynamics: The perceived cuteness of an animal increases by 30% when said animal is sleeping.

Yup.  It's a sloth.

I wonder why being a sloth is sinful, when they are so cute!  Smiley

A friend shared this with me the other day:

Hairstyle Dos and Don'ts for Alpacas.

Quote
A WIN: Reminiscent of both David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust phase and Richard Marx's locks in the 1980s, this look is a timeless classic. To attain it, be careful to shear with care near the neckline, and try a nice amplifying shampoo to enhance volume.

Yeah, it's kind of cheating, but so what. Happy meals make happy alpacas! (But seriously, what the heck...a stuffed pink alpaca? Is this for the little Aymara girl who has everything? I'd hate to think of the hours spent playing ski ball in Cuzco to win that thing...)

And also two donkeys:

I got to pet an alpaca (and the donkeys), and I'm not going to lie to you... it was pretty amazing.

I can also confirm for you firsthand that they really do walk like this... with their legs looking all weird. I don't know why you would have doubted the video evidence, but nonetheless- it is true.

Wow. I never did get to go to the local alpaca farm here in NM, since I ended up going back to California to visit family instead. From the looks of your pictures, ZZ, I made the wrong decision to spend time with family and friends instead of alpacas and donkeys. Grin (although with some of my family, it does seem like it's six of one...)

Great pics!
