Actually it is very interesting art, both paintings. They're just not icons. I don't know why people make such a fuss to say that any icon-inspired art is an icon as well.
As per the meme above, there is a lot of very good poetry that is not in sonnet metrics. Why anyone would insist in calling a non-sonnet a sonnet, is beyond me.
Repent, before the Holy Fathers of Chambesy testify against you on the Last Day.
Luke Warmodox thinks the modernist icons painted by Fr Stamatis Skliris are cool. Especially the one of the Resurrection painted in the chapel at Chambesy.
This intrigues me.
Hmmmm. I don't think I've ever looked at an icon and thought "Man, I wish I still dropped acid" before.
Try this one. The inscription reads "St Andrew just before his martyrdom". Now THAT'S a trip!

Many Energies, 3 Persons, 2 Natures, 1 God, 1 Church, 1 Baptism, and 1 Cup. The Son begotten only from the Father, the Spirit proceeding only from the Father, Each glorifying the Other. The Son sends the Spirit, the Spirit Reveals the Son, the Father is seen in the Son. The Spirit spoke through the Prophets and Fathers and does so even today.
