ROCOR Liturgy
« on: September 21, 2012, 04:35:19 PM »
Found this video on Youtube. The singing of "Come let us worship" at 10:45 into the video is amazing!
Some of the best Slavonic singing I've ever heard.

This melody for "Come let us worship" is not used in OCA??

I'm asking because in Polish Orthodox Church it's typical way of singing at the pontifical Liturgy
Pray for persecuted Christians, especially in Serbian Kosovo and Raška, Egypt and Syria

The melody is about the same, but it's not sung as slow as it is in the video. The choir in my parish never sings it in Slavonic.

The local ROCOR church here sings that version during episcopal services, and in Slavonic. The choir is blessed with a fine tenor, a rich and mellow baritone, and two magnificent basses who can make your hair stand on end for all the right reasons. Wonderful!

The melody is common and used at pontifical or hierarchical Liturgies, with some regional variation in tonality and pacing, among the east Slavs, including the Russians, Ukrainians, Rusyns, Lemkos, Belorus and - gasp- even in the Greek Catholic churches of the  region!  From SS. Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church near Mercer, PA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8XmrGq6la0
