Just found this video on Youtube.

A few questions:

1) What's going on in this video?

2) What are those canes they have that slightly resemble crutches?

3) Are those stations of the cross I see?

4) I see at least 5 different hats.

Not sure if it's relevant, but reading comments for their other videos it seems the channel that posted it is invested in some controversy about a London church.

I can't answer any of the other questions (I don't speak Amharic), but the prayer staff is apparently called the maqwamiya. Here is a short video describing the use and meaning of the various instruments found in the Orthodox Tewahedo Church: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5XKm6VSoy0

Interesting! And did you notice that he mentions at around 2:09 that Jesus has two natures? Wink

Yes. Did you notice how if you separate either one from the other you effectively don't have a drum anymore? Tongue

Dzheremi beat me to it.

3) Are those stations of the cross I see?

Yes.  It could be that they are renting the church, or that they own the church, having bought it from RC's, and decided to keep them.  We have a church like that: they removed the Stations after a while, but kept the stained glass windows, including one with "Blessed Pius X" (his window never got upgraded, I guess).

4) I see at least 5 different hats.

Re: hats.

The kid at 4:54 is cute!

But I'm not Ethiopian. If I was going to do that, my jurisdiction would have to be Cymbal and Triangle.

I didn't, Father, but that only supports my contention above that this is a non-Orthodox church being rented by the Ethiopian Orthodox.

I would've thought so too, but the controversy I mentioned in the second post is apparently about the church building being closed and "unjustly taken away," or something along those lines, from the Ethiopians. That's why they have several videos (this is one) of what I assume to be a priest giving some kind of sermon/lecture at the front door, which has a crazy-looking industrial lock on it.

The third video linked in the message below has kids using prayer sticks.  Everyone has to see it.
