Looking for a book on the ROC, c. 1905-1930s
« on: October 24, 2005, 05:28:23 PM »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book -- in English -- on the Russian Church/the Russian Faithful in the years leading up to and through the Bolshevik Revolution and its persecution under Lenin and Stalin?  Thanks!

BJohnD,
Three good, recently published books are:
Russian Orthodoxy on the Eve of Revolution by Vera Shevzov,
Keeping the Faith (Russian Orthodox Monasticism in the Soviet Union, 1917 - 1939) by Jennifer Jean Wynot, and
Red Priests (Renovationisn, Russian Orthodoxy, and Revolution, 1905 - 1946) by Edward E. Roslof.
Happy reading!

Thank you, CR.  Much obliged!

Sorry for the late reply -- I've been away from my PC for several days.

BD John :)

A VERY good history is "The Russian Church under the Soviet Regime" by Dimitry Pospielovsky
Of course, it does not cover the entire period you want but it is a respected hisory especially of the Lenin and Stalinist persecutions
