Nephi, what are some good mormon theologians vis a vis mormonism?

Orson Pratt has some pretty detailed writings on Mormon theology.

The ones that immediately come to mind are James Talmage and Bruce McConkie.

James Talmage's Jesus the Christ is a biography of Christ's entire life according to the LDS, starting at the pre-earth councils and what-not. His other works are pretty commonly read too.

Bruce McConkie is famous, or perhaps infamous, for his Mormon Doctrine, which most of the apologists against the LDS cite from a lot.

I've never heard of this guy, but here's a very good presentation by a current LDS member on why people leave the Mormon religion, which touches on some frank theological and historical problems that ex-Mormons have with that faith.

I have heard of John Dehlin, and occasionally used to listen to his podcast, Mormon Stories, before I became Orthodox. There's actually a Wikipedia entry about him, which I did not know existed until just now. I always enjoyed his podcasts however and found him to be receptive to honest dialogue and fair criticism of LDS doctrine and practices, which one does not always see in Mormon circles.

1.We went to the same university together, and in all my conversations with him I can conclude that John Dehlin can hardly be considered Mormon anymore. He has parted ways with most of what they believe, and explains himself as a loose deist.

2. As for LDS theologians, the most prominent I can think of are the late Hugh Nibley and they lay theologian Blake Ostler who has a website of Mormon apologetics and theology. http://blakeostler.com/

I don't believe ITT has ever been used in a thread title here at oc.net. Good job!  ;D
