Blessed Father Seraphim fell asleep in the Lord 30 years ago today. May his memory be eternal! I'll provide a link to his Akathist. Chosen vessel of Christ, Blessed Father Seraphim, we offer to thee a song of thanksgiving and praise, as we contemplate thy God-pleasing activity and sacrifice. As you now behold the risen Lord, on His throne of glory, you intercede for our pitiful generation. Wherefore we sinners cry out: Rejoice, Holy Father Blessed Seraphim, radiant lamp of Christ illuminating the last times! http://www.angelfire.com/planet/parastos/akathistrose.htmlThe sinful servant of God, Haralambos Feast of the Prophet Samuel

Anyone with pics of the visit to Platina, please post them. I'm sure most people are heading back today, so I thought I'd get a jump on things. Wish I could have gone. I knew of at least three families making the trip.

I am interested, do anyone know the author of the Akathist? I have never read an Akathist which specifically mentions the end times.

O Lord, grant thy Church discernment, whether your servant Seraphim should be glorified or not.

He is a recent saint, so maybe such texts are a recent innovation? Anyone have an older text like that?

Referring to one's current time as "the last times" or "the latter days" or something is an ancient practice. Basically any time after Christ can be called the last days.

How is it not news? Father Seraphim, though not yet a saint, lived a pious life and contributed to American Orthodoxy. His body did not see corruption and after his death, some claimed he smelled of roses. There have also been miracles attributed to him by those who have prayed to him. Some of the breakaway ROCOR groups have already canonized him a Saint. In mainstream Orthodoxy, he is awaiting Glorification by the Holy Synod. This is why it's news. Blessed Father Seraphim pray for us sinners!

Sounds like a discussion more appropriate for some of the other topics then news.
