Are there, besides his letters, any other translations of the works of Severus of Antioch? Do English translations of his cathedral homilies exist? I have been reading a few of Severus' letters and I'm quite impressed.

Thank you.

In another thread, I gave a link to the book "Severus of Antioch" by C.T.R. Hayward. Towards the end of said book, there are many translated writings of this great and Holy father.

Here it is:

Fr. Peter said that some of the commentary from the Author(s) did not accurately represent Severian Christology, but it is a good resource.

Nice! I was just about to start looking for sources for a paper, and this'll probably be one of them. For the translations, at least.  Grin

A paper? You make me curious, what are you going to write a paper about?

Fr. Peter Farrington has put together a list of St. Severus' works. Unfortunately much of it has not been translated to English.

The best place to look is Gorgias Press: http://www.gorgiaspress.com/bookshop/searchadv.aspx?IsSubmit=true&SearchTerm=Severus&submit.x=0&submit.y=0

Iain Torrance published a few of Severus' letters with Gorgias. Also see Torrance's Christology After Chalcedon.

A paper? You make me curious, what are you going to write a paper about?

I'm writing on Chalcedonian and non-Chalcedonian Christology. It's going to be a rewrite and expansion of a previous paper I wrote on the topic, and it'll be my senior seminar.

Effectively my thesis is that we have a shared belief explained in fairly different ways, and that much of the historical debate and condemnations have been against positions that neither side hold (e.g. that the non-Chalcedonians hold a Christology that's more or less Eutychian, which is a complete fallacy).

Interesting, I'm writing a paper about the Byzantine Empire in which I have to give summaries of things like the Council of Ephesus and Chalcedon. It seems we have some overlap there.

That's very good. Please tell us when the first set is released.
