Rejoice, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, O Virgin Theotokos. Blessed are thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, for thou has borne the savior of our souls.

Aside from your apparent devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, do you have a problem with praying to God, following traditions, etc.? What gives?
Why mess with what we've got?

hello, instead of saying the Traditional Jesus prayer I like to say - Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen Theotokos pray for me, a sinner. With blue prayer rope Why blue? Blue is the liturgical color associated with the Mother of God in many Orthodox traditions. By liturgical color, I mean that on feast days dedicated to the Virgin, such as the Annunciation, the Dormition, her Nativity, etc, the clergy's vestments, those of the altarboys, and the drapes in the church (curtain across the Royal Doors, drapes on the icon stands, etc) are blue. Other seasons or feasts use different colors.

Would you rather have Mary praying for you, or God having mercy upon you for your sins?
If I was going to pray either, I'd go with the original.

Why not both, in proper proportion? Most of the time I spend praying is spent praying to God, not Mary or the saints or angels. However... "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." (James 5:16) I'm not righteous. Mary is. So I'll gladly accept her prayers to God on my behalf.

Would you rather have Mary praying for you, or God having mercy upon you for your sins? With respect, the question cannot be answered as there is no precedent for an either/or in Orthodoxy. Along with prayers to God, there are many beautiful Theotokian prayers. I suspect that given the season, WPM is simply honoring our Holy Mother. If I was going to pray either, I'd go with the original.
Me as well, but if his priest OK's this prayer I wouldn't want to stifle his/her prayer life.

"New Idea" and "Orthodox" within the same sentence doesn't really sound that good idea.

The same could be asked of any protestant that asks someone to pray for them.

New Idea +/- Orthodoxy= Heresy.

New Idea +/- Orthodoxy= Heresy. Not necessarily though. As Metropolitan Kallistos has said, "The Holy Spirit is not stagnant."

I don't dislike the prayer itself, but I'm nervous about the preface. "Instead of the Jesus Prayer"?

I agree. I would not use it as a replacement, but perhaps as an additional prayer.

I don't dislike the prayer itself, but I'm nervous about the preface. "Instead of the Jesus Prayer"? Yeah this was my concern too. As long as one doesn't throw aside regular prayers for an original/novel prayer, I don't see an issue. I think it would be a decent devotion to the Theotokos. It seems too many people in this thread are decrying novelty for novelty's sake alone (i.e. "anything new is bad!"), which would leave us with the Lord's Prayer and the Psalms and nothing else.

New Idea +/- Orthodoxy= Heresy. Not necessarily though. As Metropolitan Kallistos has said, "The Holy Spirit is not stagnant." new saints require new hymns and such which is the work of the Spirit. However, to make something completely new which is alien to the consensus patruum, that is heresy.

However, to make something completely new which is alien to the consensus patruum, that is heresy. I don't see how making up an ejaculatory prayer to use privately constitutes heresy.
