When I was in Washington D.C. about a year ago a guy was in front of the Lincoln Memorial holding one of these signs.  I totally gave him a hug.

maybe it's just my NJ individualism speaking, but I'd hesitate and walk away.

Yes, I understand.  For me anyway, it's not easy to put down my defenses and just open up to a stranger's complete act of kindness.  On the other hand, I recognize that I need that sense of connectedness...even with those I don't know.  After all, I don't have so many friends that I can't use one more.   Smiley
