I like this story posted by a Kyrgyz student. Some quotes:

Мне удалось съездить в Штаты и в Германию.(В Германии лучше) Тогда я был еще юношей-максималистом. ... буржуи, просто отдалились. ... И я остался с нашими, такими же изгоями, но которые ближе. Это русские, хохлы, белорус, казахи, узбек, были еще русские из Баку, Алматы. Хорошие ребята. Молодые были. В начале на стажировку мы все хором поклали, гуляли по Чикаго, бухали самое дешевое пиво, хотя бухать там нельзя, но нам было пох, все знали как надо нарушать закон. И мы в конце концов с друг другом рассорились. Я узбеку и казаху что-то припомнил, те в ответ, казах русскому, русский с хохлами и т.д. Короче, наша бригада распалась уже на третий день. Остальные полторы недели я общался только с тем русским из Баку. До сих пор переписываюсь.
Вот наша беда.

Нас нигде не любят, я это понял. Для амеров мы были просто злыми русскими.(какой там киргиз!, казах!, хохол!, они этим не наморачиваются, как и остальные буржуи) И правильно: ведь мы были такими ахуевшими, даже негры сторонились.
ВСЕМ ПО*УЙ ДО НАС, КОРОЧЕ. Мы предоставлены самим себе. Наше будущее в наших руках.
На самом деле мы все похожи. Это хорошо видно за границей.

Oh c'mon you exaggerate it. IMO the majority of people are still for the Union, even there in the Baltic States.
Even there is in Germany and Hungary a lot of people who miss the East Bloc.

Nobody voted to create independent states, everybody voted to save the Union (77.8%).
