Google adding Eastern European cities to StreetView
« on: July 05, 2012, 07:29:09 PM »
If anyone is interested, Google has been gradually starting to add more countries in Eastern Europe to their StreetView feature. As with Western Europe and the United States, they are starting with the biggest cities and moving out from there.

It appears that they have already photographed parts of Romania, Ukraine & Russia and most of Latvia and Estonia.

https://www.google.com/maps

To see the areas which StreetView is available, click and hold the yellow guy on the left of the map and drag him to the blue areas on the map. It will also show photographs as blue dots. The StreetView portions are indicated by solid blue regions on the map.

Apparently they've been photographing Greece since 2009 but they stopped temporarily since the Greek government wanted more information to protect the privacy of their citizens. Last year the government passed a law allowing the photography as long as the faces of its citizens are blurred. This is probably one reason Greece hasn't been added, since it would take quite some time to blur the photos of people on all of the streets.

in some places they will have to blur more than their faces  :o
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth
